Having faith in authentic creativity means having faith in the human: in the time, labor, and spirit out of which creative community is made.
Trust must be demonstrated, and reinforced over time. Most importantly, it must come from within the resources of a work itself—in the process of writing, and the progress made by a writer—not imposed and judged from the outside by a black box trained to “detect” human writing.
AI verifiers will always have a significant margin of error, because (1) the judgment criteria is derived from human writing itself, and (2) humans are by nature unpredictable (that’s what makes it creative work!). And the costs of getting it wrong are high and growing.
The goal of having so much AI content isn't necessarily to pass itself off as genuine, human work. It's to obfuscate and deflate the veracity of all writing, which benefits maxxers and supplants legitimate writers. Creating doubt and paranoia is also a goal, one verifiers greatly benefit from.
Fundamentally, any readily accessible AI verifier is going to be incentivized to tell you what it thinks you want to hear. Any signifier like sentence structure, cliche or flatness can either be trained out, ingested by a real human (we made the training after all) or up to subjective taste.
