At this point, they're planning to kill the crew. So, why does he handle the ship so delicately- going as far as placing it back in its' spot? Because it made Ed happy, because Ed thinks it's neat. Because Izzy is so in love with Ed and they gave us this scene early on to set that up.

Izzy the beachcomber finds a golden coin of great antiquity. He should really sell it and quit his miserable job, but the ghost of the big ravenous pirate attached to the coin is rearranging his spine every night, so he's going to see where things go with 'Ben' before making any rash decisions.
