This masterpiece of a response to the Federal government’s newly-proposed regulations that would destroy American science has inspired me to provide a much more thoughtful response than initially planned. #AcademicSky #EpiSky #Heliophysics 🧪 elizabethginexi.substack.com/p/my-public-...

#Bugsky 🐙🌿 Shared with me by a fof in SoCal - this is a gynandromorph (both male & female) valley carpenter bee (Xylocopa sonorina). Females are black, males orange, so the extreme color dimorphism really stands out. Per Doug Yanega at UC Riverside, bee gynandromorphs he’s seen are mosaic instead—

A photo looking down on an unusual bee clinging to a green shirt. The bee is a stout bee called a carpenter bee, but what’s unusual is that it is both male and female, known as a gynandromorph. In this particular species (Xylocopa sonorina), females are jet black and males are fuzzy orange. This one has an abdomen that is divided into four perfect quadrants, like a checkerboard, alternating orange and black. The thorax is mostly black but with some orange.

Incredible! Scientists receive a rare standing ovation after announcing that a new treatment can double the survival time for pancreatic cancer, the deadliest cancer which was once considered “undruggable.” When we fund and support science, we can achieve anything! (Video: Dr. Wish Dhillon)

🧵 Public science in the US has taken some heavy hits over the last year, but the White House OMB is proposing a series of changes that will result in a TKO for science as we know it unless we fight back. Here's what's happening, and why it matters. 1/n

If you're wondering what the Artemis II astronauts will be experiencing during tomorrows reentry, I recently made this video showing the Artemis I reentry with a telemetry overlay. 🔭🧪 #Artemis Full video on YouTube: youtu.be/-QbYrs5SZ5M

It still seems unreal to me that humans will soon be flying back to the moon! They will be returning to Earth at a speed of 40.000 km/h, the fastest ever reentry of a crewed spacecraft. This remastered video shows a similar reentry from the #Artemis 1 mission back in 2022 at 9x speed. 🔭🧪

The best part of the March today was marching in the vicinity of the Liberation Brass Band, who played fun music along the entire route. When we got to the 11th St. underpass tunnel, the band’s noise was magnified, the crowd started cheering wildly, and it was crazy and glorious! #NoKings #Oakland
