Seems like anthro is in a good position to help clarify and point out what wrong with these claims. While also highlighting the political and economic rationale behind these kinds of sales pitches and claims about AI.
the belief that culture and cognition and consciousness are primarily "information in the head" is why so many folks seem to think agentic/other AI can become "aware" in the human sense. But human development, culture, and cognition reject that position. How do we get this across to the public?

I really need Democratic lawmakers to understand that we're fed up with them simply posting on social media "this has to stop" without calling for specific actions to make it stop. We know this needs to stop. We elected you. Tell us what needs to be done to make it stop.

We should take Trump’s letter to Norway and project it on every public building at night, every reporter should make a T-shirt of it and every American should keep a laminated copy of it in their pocket to talk to their friends about. There is no greater proof Trump is unfit for office.
