Professor Hasenpfeffer was kind of absent-minded. He'd get lost in his work, which was studying animals. He was a very big-deal Professor Dr, Dr, h.c., and etc. And one day, the Oberbürgermeister (Lord Mayor) and other high muckamucks were coming across town to give him an award - a medal of some sort - so would he please wait to receive him in his luxurious, well-appointed, dignified office? He would. His secretary would let them in when they came.

As it happened, the mayors got stuck in traffic.

The Herr Doktor got bored. He also happened to have a very large aquarium in his office, the better to study fish behaviour with.

Watching fish behaviour can be pretty absorbing. The Professor got to thinking. If I arranged the rocks like this, I could see if the fish would...the tank's too deep to just reach in, though. It would be better if I climbed inside...only I have my best suit on...

The Highly Dignified Delegation arrived in the outer office. The secretary opened the heavy wooden door with a flourish. They entered the office, full of the usual sense of occasion.

And there was the Herr Professor, holder of all the fancy academic titles. Naked. In the fish tank.

They gave him the award, anyway.
