This is why I never lament projects that are abandoned for too long, They are the fertile soil and seeds of future creations if not something to be raided for spare parts.

One of my favourite moments when designing games is solving a new problem with parts from an abandoned project. It feels like cheating. I’m stealing ideas from myself!!

I think about this all the time!! What’s the subset of my art which is appealing, sustainable, and not undermined by AI dross. Generally it’s the wonky stuff because noone wonks as hard as otherwise intentional humans.

so happy with "EasySpline", the little layer I built atop of Unity Splines to make for easier editing. You don't usually want to fiddle with control points, you want to edit a more abstract shape and then go "ok but now:... - make it sag - rounded corners - just smooth etc.

Speaking as a dev on the other end, it’s always frustrating when a game is sent to a demo event and the recorded feedback from players is sparse. Ideally I want gameplay footage with microphone, but definitely a lot of notes!!!

I still get quite upset (internally) when playing a game, the dev asks for feedback, and then they never pull out a phone, or a pen, to write down the feedback! You have to write things down! You can’t remember all the feedback! Or, go nuts and write down the feedback on post-it’s on the booth

Cancelled creative projects never vanish from the mind of people that worked on them. I am haunted by dozens of games that only I can see.

I often think about the cancelled game project I worked on for disabled children. It really sucked to see the funding pulled.

bonus: some earlier video games my brother and I made out of paper. You could stick thin strips of carboard through openings that allowed one person to control monsters / objects draw on the end, and the other to control the player.

We worked real hard and did a huge amount of quality of life stuff (mouse control, text logs), added New Game Plus, and a bunch of extra dialog bits for Demonschool. It's also currently the Steam daily deal at 30% off! Good time to grab it if you haven't.
