The Phoenix Park in Dublin recorded 40mm of rain in two hours this evening, that is more rain in 2 hours than in the last 2 months.

When Dirty Dancing premiered 39 years ago in 1987, audiences may have flocked to theaters for romance, dancing, and (let’s be honest) Patrick Swayze, but they also encountered an unusually direct depiction of illegal abortion.

Because I am insufferable, my first observation on this list, intended for budding UK citizens, of well-known British films is that the authorities have rendered Kevin Macdonald’s name wrongly. It’s not “MacDonald”.

First family snap from new season’s Bake Off!! It starts on Channel 4 in September, though I haven’t got an exact date to give you yet. As soon as I know, I’ll tell you. (And I have no info on timings for other territories, I’m afraid.) I couldn’t be happier!

Yesterday, Carry On Screaming had its 60th anniversary since it was released in UK cinemas. I saw it on TV in 1974 age at 8. I reckon it was probably the first genuinely scary film that most Gen Xrs were ever exposed to. League Of Gentlemen have said what a massive influence it was on them. Me too!

I see The Rest is History is, unlike in their last Irish series, going in to the “Troubles” story without covering fire from an Irish historian. Brave move.
