Dark Souls 2 is so mechanically obtuse that it makes me love it more. Armor is basically meaningless and a full Havel’s set has the same damage reduction as a single specific ring. Poise is fake. Your I-frames are dictated by two arbitrary stats that both contribute to a third arbitrary stat. ❤️

We at Bethesda aim to please with at best mediocre crowd-pleasers that take decades of development time. Somehow we also never learn about announcing our titles two generations before they release. Here, have some remasters that don't work with thousands of mods the community painstakingly crafted.

NEW: Bethesda has announced a slew of new Fallout games, including Fallout 5 and Fallout 3 + New Vegas remasters. The company also confirmed my scoop last week that it is working with Obsidian on a Fallout game. I spoke to Todd Howard about the roadmap: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The newest 'Top 10 Games'-trend is pretty humbling. Even outside 'Gun & Ball'-gamers like 95% of the participating accounts post only AAA open world titles and not a single indie. This, the crashing industry and young people pretty much playing Roblox exclusively seems really bad for the future, huh

Kadokawa being in western news again as 'From Software's parent company' is still extremely funny. Like, that's one of the biggest entertainment corps in Japan - they own pretty much half of the anime and manga market!

So, Rockstar will not only ruin the discourse about realism in games for a decade *again* but they just killed physical editions for good. If they can sell 80$ games without a disc - which they absolutely can - this will become industry standard. Things are so dire, man. It's hard to stay positive.

Physical editions of GTA 6 will apparently be available from 12th November, several days ahead of the game's 19th November release, but as a download code rather than a disc. https://bit.ly/4b7m5Hb

Haven't seen people talk about 'Spider-Noir' - probably because it was dropped all at once - and can't recommend it enough. Nicolas Cage and Brendan Gleeson are acting their heart out and have visible fun with a comic adapation. Production should've fully committed to b&w though.

Damn, after the layoffs in the past few years I've always feared for Double Fine and Ninja Theory. Negotiating for your life with the ever-hungry behemoth that threw billions around to feed on studios just a few years ago is such a grim, endstage capitalism nightmare scenario.

BREAKING: Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. Lots still in flux as many studios remain unsure about what's happening. Here's the latest: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

There is no argument for machine translation that can't also be used to justify AI art / writing / whatever else you like. Stop being a fucking hypocrite just because machine translation is useful to you and you don't understand / don't value the work of translators.

Outside of gaming it's nothing new that PR tries to embargo pretty much everything. In this case however if you decide to sit on this while being aware that the affected employees don't know they're being fired? Might as well change your job description to Ubisoft marketing.

Ubisoft EMBARGOED news to outlets about the layoffs and studio closures, FYI. Employees were told this morning. And then many reached out to us. Companies trying to embargo layoffs and closures might be the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen in my 16 years.

After having played the 1666: Amsterdam-prologue i’m really deflated. Obvious AI use for changing paintings and the *COVER ART* aside, every aspect is undercooked. From the technical level to movement, clumsy writing and – worst of all – the inclusion of a mascot that sounds like Rocket Raccoon.

The actual most important line of the Capcom *Investor Q&A* is "it will take some time before we can quantitatively demonstrate the results of this improved development efficiency". Thinly veiled lies to pump their shareholder value up, they have absolutely nothing right now.

Well, we had a good run. Of course 'good' might be a slight exaggeration considering the three year delays were just a horrible idea. Either way, these days exclusives are few and far between - it won't make much of a difference for people who own a PC but no PS5.

SCOOP: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company's narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg's reporting from earlier this year. Original story from March: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Alright, so now just *any* review from IGN that is not exactly an 8/10 gets outrage from Gamergate 2.0? In many cases not even those are safe from vitriol. Hours ago those same people made fun of Subnautica 2! Gamers really do deserve a collapsing industry, sucks to be caught in the crossfire.

The Mixtape discourse makes me feel like we have arrived at a place where criticism is almost untenable because it will be flanderized and stripped down to whatever parts become useful for social media cohorts driven by algorithms towards reactionary or extreme ends rather than engagement w/ media.
