This is a SUPERB thread. Both in terms of educating but also as an indictment of the anti-rational/pseudoscientific cult that is ‘MAHA’. I’m ashamed to say throughout my scientific career I’ve never considered why E. Coli is so named. And now I’m a better person for knowing.

The headlines are still covering the cyclosporiasis outbreak from lettuce, but let's talk about a different summer, long ago. The headlines in Bavaria would have called it "summer diarrhea" & it was killing babies. Enter our hero, Professor Theodor Escherich of the Julius Hospital, Würzburg.

This juvenile Seagull has been hanging around our building the past couple of days. Yesterday I encountered him out front clearly fascinated by his own reflection. Today it was asleep in the middle of the ramp to the car park/loading bay & only got up (grumpily) & out of the way as I cycled past.

Binface vs Binfire - Count Binface will run in Clacton. “Labour, Tories, Lib Dems and Greens: … stand down in Clacton. I will be a unity candidate & pledge to build at least one affordable house. Nigel Farage says he wants ‘The People versus the Establishment’. So be it. Leave him to me.”

Trump on Balogun: "That wasn't even an infraction...this referee, who is a little bit suspect if you check his past. He made a call nobody could believe...he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant...yes, I asked for a review by FIFA."
