Doctors and nurses are treating illnesses caused by living in asylum accommodation. Let that sink in. Mould. Damp. Collapsed ceilings. Children living in it for months. Healthcare is a human right. So is a roof over your head that doesn't poison you.

🔴 Mass asylum camps are a healthcare violation. For a year we ran a clinic at Wethersfield ex-military site, treating men seeking safety. 68% were survivors of violence. 62% had severe mental distress. 30% suicidal. The Home Office MUST #CloseTheCamps & scrap ALL plans to open more.

Shutting people seeking sanctuary in ex-military barracks is dangerous, traumatising and cruel. And every night in barracks costs over FIVE TIMES more than a night in a home in a community. So can anyone explain why the Government wants to open MORE camps?

This debt will cost people their health. £10,000, charged for support received while banned from working. The Government's debt will pressure people into unsafe work, housing, and poorer health just to pay it off. It's the same trap as NHS charging. You cannot punish people for seeking safety.

Refugees would be told to repay around £10,000 under new asylum bill

The Home Office will be given powers to recover costs from adults who have received asylum support under new laws.

Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. Sweden was found to have violated that right by charging migrants for medical care. The UK Government does the same with NHS treatment. It's time the UK was held to the same standard.

Sweden found guilty of violating the right to healthcare - Doctors of the World

The European Committee of Social Rights has ruled that Sweden violated the right to healthcare by denying EU migrants equal access and charging full treatment costs for care.

Extreme heat does not affect us all equally. Our patients experiencing homelessness, in unsuitable housing or refugee camps are facing a red alert without relief. The climate crisis is a health crisis. If you or someone near you in UK needs support, this thread can help ⬇️

The EU approved far-right plans to share medical data with immigration enforcement for deportations. This is how trust in healthcare is destroyed. Fear of detention and deportation pushes people away from the care they need. We strongly condemn this inhumane policy.

EU has voted in favour of new Returns Regulations, permitting ICE-style immigration enforcement across Europe, despite major health warnings.

Remembering Grenfell, nine years on. We spoke with Dr Paquita de Zulueta, who worked with us to support survivors who urgently needed medical care but feared using the NHS. The tragedy was avoidable. So were the barriers to healthcare that followed.

We condemn the attacks in Belfast. Our thoughts are with the victim and everyone who has since been targeted in its aftermath. What we are seeing in Belfast is not a series of isolated incidents. It reflects how quickly normalised racist narratives can escalate into harm for entire communities.

We have supported children to get a correct age assessment after they were wrongly assessed as adults by the Home Office. These are not decisions for AI systems. Age assessments must be human and expert-led. No child should be stripped of the protections they need.

🚨 High court rules room-sharing for survivors of torture is unlawful. For years, we've flagged the harm caused by room-sharing in large sites. Our doctors have repeatedly seen patients retraumatised. It's time the UK Government took medical advice seriously. #CommunitiesNotCamps

Here's what we know: in every single community in the UK, there are people who are kind, hopeful and welcoming. This week they'll be making that hope and welcome extra visible - but it's there every day. What give you hope in your community?

It doesn't matter where they're born. Every child needs stability, safety and protection from harm. This Government has attacked children's rights on all sides through a raft of hostile migration policies - it must change course, now.

Mirror Politics@politics.mirror.co.uk · 3mo ago

Nearly 150 children's groups have accused the Government of a "sustained attack on children's rights" as they demanded a U-turn on proposals to handcuff kids during deportations.

Children and babies are dying as a result of living in temporary accommodation. Our clinics see families placed for years in squalid, unstable housing, unable to meet their kid’s basic health needs. 104 deaths is a travesty. Safe, stable housing must be a priority.
