This country needs a national anti-racism strategy. For too long successive governments have fuelled division towards migrants and refugees in their rhetoric & policies. Alongside +100 other orgs, we joined @runnymedetrust.bsky.social to call on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to take urgent action.

From widespread racist violence, to attacks on places of worship and burning down homes and businesses of people of colour, our new Prime Minister is inheriting a country which is ripping at the seams.

We're proud to join 200+ charities calling on the Prime Minister to change course from cruelty to compassion. The PM must: ❌Scrap plans to house people in ex-military sites ❌Scrap the £10k refugee tax ❌Challenge harmful rhetoric ✅Reinstate family reunion ✅Increase safe routes & much more. 1/2

Military bases are not safe or appropriate places for asylum seekers. They pose serious health risks while preventing social cohesion within local communities. Instead the Govt should house people safely within communities & allow them to work & rebuild their lives. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Migrant justice is climate justice. Heatwaves disproportionately hit people living in poverty, unsuitable housing, or sleeping on the streets – and migrant communities and people of colour are overrepresented in these groups. Extreme temperatures are dangerous. 1/3

Yet more evidence that the slogan politics of smash the gangs is exactly that - just a slogan. It doesn't stop irregular crossings, it just makes them more dangerous. To prevent further loss of life in the Channel, the next Prime Minister must open safe routes now. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Instead of the change we were promised, Keir Starmer's Govt. continued the failed politics of hostility - lifting ideas straight from the far-right’s playbook. Whoever is the next Prime Minister, it’s not too late to stop demonising migrants and build an economy that works for all ordinary people.

Good news! We were successful in a permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal about a client's asylum claim. They are really happy and it means their rights are protected. Donate to help fund free legal advice: www.praxis.org.uk?form=donate
