Brutal truth - US cybersecurity of essential services fucking sucks. There's water treatment centers etc all over Shodan, just search celluar phone network ranges. SCADA systems with WinVNC, you name it. Most of these providers have 2 IT people and no budget.

This is some good digging of Microsoft's financials by Paul - I didn't know MS were doing this. One of my old employers (not Microsoft) did extending depreciation on prior Capexs as they needed to invest but couldn't afford to. It was a major red flag and where things started to go wrong.

Sense check for people working in cybersecurity in operations roles in the trenches: I’m not finding or seeing cyber incidents off the back of Generative AI still. Are you? Not ones you’ve read about online - I mean ones you’ve actually dealt with.

I still use Microsoft Recall. I think I might be the only person as it frequently breaks, the UI refuses to work, the snapshots break... today we have (another) model update where it stops taking snapshots until you happen to notice it and manually fix it. It's a very weird and unfinished product.

The business model of cybersecurity vendors has always been to fail up... but OpenAI have taken it a step further with 'we're criminals, hire us lols' as their (accepted, too) sales pitch.
