"In thematic analysis, theory is a matter of picking an epistemological and ontological position in qualitative research rather than examining how qualitative research draws from theory and contributes to theorizing." This is exactly why I don't like thematic analysis.

Iddo Tavory and I wrote about AI in qualitative data analysis highlighting the vulnerability of thematic analysis and the value of theorizing journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

It's clear to me now that many really don't care about sociology as a discipline, but are simply using the moment to express their grievance and resentment toward the journals and departments that rejected them. Funny that this is the same group of people who are against "grievance studies."

Somehow I managed to survive UChicago without serving as a discussant for any workshop. Ironically, serving as a discussant for this panel means the word "sinophone" will now be on my CV even though I'm not even a literary scholar ๐Ÿ˜‚

Is not having Air Conditioning the main reason why UK universities rank so much higher than US universities in terms of sustainability? I'm seriously wondering ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต

Follow-up question: Does anyone know of any undergraduate research using either comparative-historical method or experimental method that was later published in a peer-reviewed journal? Recommendations for published undergrad work using other methods are also appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚ #sociology #teaching

#Sociology friends: Do you have any former undergrad student (or yourself) who turned a BA thesis (or other undergrad work) into a peer-reviewed publication? I'm thinking about putting together a bibliography of peer-reviewed studies that started as undergraduate research๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“ #teaching #undergraduates

I'm very honored and excited to have been elected to serve as Council Member for the ASA Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis Section! ๐Ÿคฉ Really looking forward to supporting and advocating for interactionist scholars in sociology in this new role! ๐Ÿ˜Š

We had such a wonderful panel discussion on childhood and the politics of gender and sexuality yesterday!!! It's such a privilege to get four of my favorite sociologists on the same panel and I learned so much from the conversation!!!
