setting up a new-old-stock ge cassette clock radio (~30 years old and works perfectly!) and lamenting the state of the world because THEY PUT A SPARE BULB THAT YOU PROBABLY WON'T EVER NEED *INSIDE THE CLOCK*, JUST IN CASE IMAGINE A MANUFACTURER OF LITERALLY ANYTHING DOING THIS IN 2026

a newly-set up ge model 7-4966 cassette clock radio. it's black plastic and fake wood-grain with a glowing amber/orange display that says 3:49, WAKE 1 ♫. sitting on top are 3 cassette new cassette tapes: the mountain goats days, melanie radford's for the sake of stillness and ratboys' singin' to an empty chair

ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS
The light intensity of the digital display can be adjusted for day/night lighting conditions by switching BRIGHTNESS to high, medium, or low. The BRIGHTNESS switch is located on the left side of the cabinet.

now, the miraculous section:

DISPLAY ILLUMINATION
The digital display is illuminated by a bulb which is easily replaced. Under normal use, the bulb should give you years of dependable service. However, in the event bulb replacement is required, a spare bulb (included) is stored on the underside of the battery compartment door on the bottom of the clock radio.
To replace the bulb:
1. Disconnect the line cord from the AC outlet.
2. Turn the clock radio upside down.
3. In a recessed area directly beneath the display you will see the bar handle of the bulb holder. Twist the handle to the left to unlock and remove the holder.
4. Pull the bulb out of the holder and discard the bulb.
5. Open the battery compartment and remove the spare bulb from the underside of the door. Replace the battery compartment door.
6. Push the new bulb's base into place between the prong connectors
