Get in, folks: a new Russian disinfo campaign is targeting the midterms, specifically Democrats, in what seems to be the first attempt by the Kremlin-backed op to meddle in this year’s U.S. elections. They're faking celebrity videos attacking Dems and are...very stupid. www.ms.now/news/russia-...

A Russian disinformation campaign is doctoring celebrity videos to meddle in the midterms

The Kremlin-backed operation, known as Matryoshka, has Hollywood actors telling voters to disavow the Democratic Party and vote Republican.

Could machines ever be conscious? Sure, maybe. If you believe that humans are just a complex bundle of electrochenical signals run through a meat culture, then there's no reason to think silicon is inherently less special than we are.

People seem a little bit overly skeptical about the new technology, why might that be (Another former Anthropic engineer posts something floridly insane) Ah

If the people *saying* they believe their own product could definitely wipe out all life on the planet actually believe it and they *continue to work on it*, they should be placed in prison and never allowed to touch a computer again.

Something I've seen a lot of in the last few days from people who want to justify using ai from the resource management side of things is that we can solve a lot of the environmental dangers through proper regulation. The problem with this argument is that we *haven't done that yet.*

I'm not a Satanist, but years ago I concluded that if I believed in the God described by a lot of Christian fundamentalists, being a Satanist would be the only moral choice. Because a God that hateful, violent and cynical would be a God worth despising. This is a skeet about AI.

One thing I would like to see discussed more is the role data centers play in generating e-waste as old equipment becomes obsolete and damaged over time. Currently we only recycle like 20% of global electronic waste, and this increase in data centers will drive that number down significantly.

Extremely frustrating to see legacy media breathlessly and uncritically reporting on the Kennedy Center ceiling collapse, that the courts have stopped Trump from building restorations. They did not. They just won't let him put his name on the building.
