I was reminded this morning of "Psycho," an automaton co-invented by John Nevil Maskelyne and John Algernon Clarke in 1874. Psycho was designed to play the card games Whist and Nap and performed over 4000 times at the Egyptian Hall. He's now at the Museum of London.
