📢 New White Paper! @drmagomez.bsky.social compares how the recent US ban on Anthropic's Fable 5/Mythos 5 risks falling into the same trap as the 1990s Crypto Wars — when encryption export controls hurt US competitiveness and boosted foreign alternatives. www.hinrichfoundation.com/research/wp/...
US and Anthropic clash over AI governance echoes Crypto Wars | White paper | Hinrich Foundation
The US ban on Anthropic’s latest model in June, though eventually lifted, risk repeating history's mistakes rather than protecting US interests.

I’ve got a new commentary with the Hinrich Foundation where I frame the challenges of regulating frontier AI with the Crypto Wars of the 1990s. Bottom line, governance headwinds will always appear unless key stakeholders are involved in the process. www.hinrichfoundation.com/research/wp/...

Maduro is a brutal and oppressive dictator of Venezuela. Trump has no legitimate legal basis for military action against Venezuela under United States or international law. Both of those facts are simultaneously true.

As painful as this could be, I am curious to see whether collective responses in Southeast Asia and other regions will surface.
Nine of the Southeast Asia's 11 nations have been hit with reciprocal tariffs that could devastate local industries – and create a strategic opening for China.
Keeping in mind the character of this administration, I wonder how much Manila values reassurances of U.S. commitment to the region.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth used his first trip to Asia to try to reassure allies that the U.S. was committed to deterring Chinese "threats" to the region, while also defending his recent actions in disclosing American battle plans in a group chat.
