Simulated. That's the key word here. Because that's all GenAI does. It endlessly remixes all the previous work that real, human scholars have done (often by stealing from copyrighted work, BTW). It cannot generate any genuinely new insight. And that's what humanities are supposed to do.
humanities scholarship can be imitated and the outputs can be simulated, and I’m sure I’ve been fooled by students in the past couple of years. but what have the students gained intellectually and practically from that? how have they improved?
