One thing that's kinda cool about making a TTRPG myself is when playtesters tell me "This seems so good, it's borderline broken" I sometimes get to say "That's as intended" and watch their faces narrow suspiciously I legitimately want every feature/choice/decision to feel extremely potent sometimes

Yeah @themonstersknow.com was right, OUTLIER is pretty much what I enjoy about language. People in the TTRPG sphere know a ton of weird, disused, or archaic words - if you like word games like Wordle or Scrabble, give it a try! playoutlier.com
I get "it was a fun [book/movie/show/game] to turn my brain off to" a lot. I'm begging, pleading, imploring those people to engage; to tell me the last thing they did that turned their brain ON so I can gauge how bad their torpidity has become. In the media we consume, SOMETHING has to matter.
That common #ttrpg cold take of "adventurers need to have traumatic backstories because why else would they adventure?" does not take into account how many real humans with mellow upbringings: Cave dive Cliff jump Big game hunt Join paramilitary orginizations Street fight Some people just CRAVE it.
I wonder what inspired the new Warlock video game, based on Dungeons and Dragons lore by Wizards of the Coast, to be designed infinitely higher magic than Dungeons and Dragons. No hate, not vitriolic, just legitimately curious. It legitimately feels like 4e gameplay, which I cut my teeth on.
#TTRPG #GMTip of the day: I'd say 90% of the time, you *should* let your party's plan work. Give them 1-2 obstacles, or 1-2 unexpected wrinkles, but if you consistently side-step or undercut the PCs' plans with subversions, you'll completely shred their confidence as players at your table.

I've completely fucked up the last 5-6 loaves of bread i've tried to bake and I need some positive energy today, because i'm about ready to give up.

✨Notice/Update on Commissions!✨ I have a few pieces left for rewards/gifts that I must finish. I’m going to make a new Trello and open commissions in September. (Probably starting with just a couple slots) DM me if you are interested in a waitlist spot 😳🥰 #commission #art #characterart #ttrpgart
The power is mercifully, finally back on after 100 hours without it. I'm starting to restock my fridge now that the stores here are also starting to restock. Losing *everything* in my fridge and freezer hurt. My medical issues mean my food options are extremely limited and rather costly.
Hey TTRPG fam. Our friend @lynnemeyer.bsky.social, who is a laid-off former Paizo editor, is having a rough one. Storms knocked out power in her town and the current estimate to get power back is by next Tuesday. She lost everything in her fridge and needs help with food. Please share/donate!

I had a series of dreams that stressed me the fuck out about a fantasy battler board game and crumbling friendships. I woke up feeling like I was just in a car crash, the cortisol spike was so insane my hands were shaking a little. Don't remember a time I felt rested and recovered, to be honest.
I wonder how many TTRPGs actually focus most of their attention on the early game mechanical development instead of late-game development. Feels weird for many games i've played to be the most "boring" and "simple" for the first third of their content when most games don't surpass that content.
Its a core mechanic in the game I'm making. Spellcasters actively avoid one another for fear of the lasting effect their combined spell use could have on a single location.

Tell me about a current event in one of the cities in your #TTRPG In Saltcombe, a noble and famous duelist has been stuck on his ship in isolation for nearly a week due to a plague that recently hit the city.
Wrote a line that made me think of a poem, so here... Sing-song voices boil beneath long-packed soil - offering sweet lies and succulent promises for a few spades of extracted earth - That longing hunger makes memory easy to forget - what we had to bury and why it should remain
Late to the party, but Thunderbolts was actually in my top 5 favorite marvel movies. I loved the lower stakes story overcome by something other than a bigger stick. A little too flippant at times, but overall I did legitimately enjoy it. Some of the visuals were quite inspired.

So i started Slay the Spire years late, but I managed to actually 'beat' the spire on my very first run, while playing off and on between design sprints. It was fun, intuitive, and rewarded careful gameplay. Now I'm playing as Spirit (2nd character) and have never had less fun in my entire life.
Emily Wilson, a scholar who has published a version of The Odyssey in Iambic Pentameter, wrote the literal best review I have ever read in my entire life. I has done much to sooth my psyche to read this review and know I wasn't being unduly pedantic about the film's missteps. Made my day.

Hm... The Odyssey was good, but I legitimately like Troy (2004) more for the Iliad storyline and The Returned (2024) for the return to Ithaca. The Odyssey (1997) miniseries was also hokey and cheap but had much better writing. The Odyssey (2026) was at its BEST during Odysseus' missing 10 years.
What's stuck in my craw about our current climate crisis is: I don't care whose fault it is. The planet's climate has changed endless numbers of times over its 4.5 billion year lifespan. It's how we're REACTING that makes me incensed - no planning, no great works, no public policies, nothing.
Going to be honest, the sheer volume of rejections I've gotten for full-time employment in the TTRPG space is sapping the life from me. 4 third-interview rejections 2 first-interview rejections 21 no-interview rejections 18 no-replies Hard not to internalize it.

A thought on Superhero #TTRPG: Most tables will get their best experiences out of games aimed at the Street to Middle levels of power. Past that, things tend to get janky because many superhero TTRPG mechanics struggle with high and epic power levels. Examples of Street to mid level powers... 1/2
for you #TTRPG people who may not know, the rule "Show don't tell" means to let your players make their own supposition about a situation based on concrete details. ❌"She's extremely sad." ✅"She's been crying." ✅"She wipes her tear-streaked face." You have to TELL them, just be more indirect.

#GMTip - Keep each feature descriptions to 30 words or fewer, if you can. Short, evocative sentences leave room for imagination. "The water's... very dark. Cold, and so very dark." P: "Can we see land?" "Almost, you think. Through this thick, greasy fog, it's... You've lost it."
