I guess while everyone is airing their pandemic grievances I’ll add that as a nurse, the most traumatic thing about the pandemic for me was the lack of appropriate PPE and the denial of airborne spread that STILL happens in healthcare
I don’t say this lightly but it’s possible that interdisciplinary research is doomed

Conclusions to draw from this paper: 1. We need more clean air experts in care homes (and schools, etc.) 2. Air cleaners need to be tamper and pee-resistant. 3. Air cleaners need to be alarmed (re: abuse, power off, maintenance) 4. Air cleaners need to be quiet. 5. Super-size them!

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
In the absence of that kind of systematic typing instruction, a lot of young people seem to have compensated by shifting to phones and to a texting-style of writing that's heavy on abbreviations and emoji but doesn't translate well to having to type full papers or assignments for class. 10/
I wonder if students today would be less likely to lean on AI for writing assignments if schools had made sure they could touch-type (at least 60wpm) before having them submit all their assignments online. 1/🧵
I'm tired of AI in meetings at work. First, managers deploy AI "meeting summarizers". Then, employees buy AI avatars to attend those meetings in their place. Now, managers spend the meeting kicking employee AIs out. What a giant waste of time and effort. All because nobody wants to take notes.
