It's also filled the internet with slop and lies even more, ruined translation apps, ruined so many other apps, and in general dealt a blow to how much you can trust information. There are AI technologies I need and they are all medical research ones. I don't need or want a computer to talk to me.
Any amount of time saved using AI is usually lost (if not more) in fixing the garbage the AI spits out, so why bother in the first place?
Oh yes. The shills constantly claim that it makes life easier for writers and editors. I would never touch it as a writer - all else aside, my personal standards are much higher - and as an editor, I'm sick of clients expecting me to fix its errors when it would be quicker to write from scratch.
Plus, these people are so thoroughly addicted to AI that they can’t even conceive of the notion that we who are against AI don’t use it at all.
I would have to spend so much less time figuring out how to tell copilot to fuck off if it was banned. I can write the email myself thanks, and additionally I don't want to lie to people and tell them we have records they want when we don't have them
I have never used it. I will never use it unless a website/software literally gives me no option. these people who have fallen into it so wholeheartedly and believe everyone else has/should are honestly saying so much more about themselves than they realise.
On a fundamental level, putting aside the stolen training data, the environmental impact, how much it can be used for misinformation etc., the fact that it cannot be trusted to not just make shit up means that it is simply not useful to me in any way.
A better response would be to pay them more.

As much as radicals get criticized for being "unrealistic," demanding entire demographics facing literal genocide always maintain mild rhetoric and actions is an absolutely delusional level of conformity to expect. I don't think that gets said enough.
Feds want unis: "reexamining admissions practices, hiring more conservative faculty, cracking down on student protests, combating grade inflation, reducing foreign donations and lowering tuition." Some faculty will fall for this nonsense. The bigger worry is that boards and presidents will.
Please hate gen AI even harder. You can do it. I believe in you. Do it for the planet. Hate the lazy, slop producing, environment killing, water draining, participation trophy seeking, poser creating, loser machine. Do it for humanity.
I haven't been in academia for a long, long time, but I feel all of this acutely. Thanks for articulating it It's incredibly hard sometimes - when so many people you used to respect professionally embrace/both-sides something so demonstrably abhorrent - to remember you're not actually going insane

Student loan holders in SAVE forbearance with Mohela as their servicer, have today received emails claiming that their loans are delinquent and past due, even though they're still in forbearance. People are panicking. Why isn't this on the news???
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 164001: If you want to beat AI, write using your human voice, from your human perspective. Write about feelings; sensations; dreams. Be you, in all your uniqueness. AI is generic; bland; acceptable. Dare to be different; subversive; real. That's how we stay human.
Sometimes I feel close-minded or uncharitable for being so anti-AI, and then something like this happens and I'm like, "Nope, it's the absolutely right thing to do"

Deep down people know that despite all the sales pitches in the world, so-called AI isn't actually for them. It's meant to manage them, control them, and long term quite frankly replace them. This is hand in hand with the rising Plutonimy and the growing consumer irrelevance of the masses.
They are trying -everything- to get the masses to adopt this but it's not happening. They are forcing it in work places, forcing it to make more and more career paths relevant, forcing it on young people's education, etc. None of it is getting people on board.
With AI it's the opposite, the change isn't organic, the change is being brute forced to the protest of virtually everyone outside of executives and stockholders. So much so that companies had to resort to dirty tricks to give the illusion of acceptance and adoption
The more I dig into so-called AI, the more my conclusion that everything about it is a manifestation of the gentrification of the tech field is validated. Everything from its intent, its strategy, the nature of data centers, and who is adopting it.

They have chosen this method that DESTROYS the book on purpose, because it is faster and cheaper. They know time is limited before society and the bubble catches up with them.
AI is not about making the world a better place. It is about consolidating wealth and power for the most evil, narcissistic psychopaths to ever walk the Earth.
