Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

men when christopher nolan casts a non-white actor: that is not ACCURATE they were all WHITE men when emily wilson points out christopher nolan’s inaccuracies: oh come on it’s just a film it can’t be 100% faithful to the original

mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not

Emily Wilson is completely correct about Nolan's take on the food in The Odyssey. Her translation is full of lavish descriptions of food, so much so that at points I felt like I was reading a prelude to a New York Times Cooking column. (1/x)

Saw the Odyssey and enjoyed it but rolled my eyes so hard at Calypso and her depiction in the film. She fell in love with Odysseus? The big question is WHY because in Nolan's adaptation he is bringing nothing to the table except brooding and wandering on the beach.
