Pushing back against Gen AI is an existential fight. The underlying philosophy driving the people designing and evangelising Gen AI is simply to destroy writers, artists, musicians, game devs, etc. If you care about the arts, we are in an existential fight for the future of these professions.

> "Gogineni stated that his “research mission” was to create a machine that would supplant human authors." Can't get clearer than that.

Adapting Chandler's The Big Sleep to film in 1946, the plot was so convoluted, the writers & director couldn't figure out who had killed the chauffeur in the inciting incident. They cabled Chandler about it. Chandler: "They sent me a wire ... asking me, and dammit I didn't know either."

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

Can't believe this is coming out tomorrow. I've been dreaming about this story for more than 30 years. Almost can't wrap my head around the fact that Book Three is about to come out and that I'm already neck deep in making Book Five. I hope you'll check the series out. I'm fiercely proud of it.

18-year-old Autumn Ackerman always dreamed of a more magical world, but ever since she learned that she was one of the Night Folk, the world has become a nightmare.
Strange powers, family secrets. ancient enemies, and now her father is gone for good, leaving Autumn with nothing but more questions about who she is and what the Night Folk really are.
But the one person who can answer those questions, Autumns' grandfather, the October King, is dying, and the only hope of saving him lies in a place Autumn has only seen in her dreams.
The place many of the Night Folk fled to centuries ago when humanity turned on them...
...the Night World.
The next chapter in the critically-acclaimed series from Matthew Dow Smith (DC's MISFITS OF MAGIC, AMELIA SHADOWS)

OUTLOOK (2025) Acrylic on Canvas - 12” x 9”

All of my Lumen paintings feature a figure struggling to reach the light, against seemingly overwhelming travails. In OUTLOOK we see the moment of breakthrough and discovery, a daunting obstacle overcome. #art

A boy rests on a ledge to peer out an open panel in a huge concrete facade that is divided into recessed rectangles. At the intersection of the concrete support beams, the cross braces rust over. Each rectangle on the wall contains a different shape (circle, hexagon, 8-pointed star) sealed and closing off the view outside. Below the boy, a panel tumbles down as he props his hand on the rusted metal frame. Beyond is blue-gray sky.

There is no "ethical" use of what they're calling "AI." Also, ironic that they did a survey of their members that revealed the membership is overwhelmingly against "AI," and they still come out with this BS.

You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.

We're in the midst of a massive crisis of epistemic authority and social trust, with much of the online information ecosystem basically collapsing into an algorithmic swirl of unverifiable rumour, and Wikipedia is one of the few institutions holding out. Attacking it is stupid and irresponsible.

I don't disagree with any criticism here particularly but I think that taking aim at Wikipedia, one of the great achievements of humanity, in this internet context, is reckless and dumb www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

I own copyright on the vast majority of cover art I’ve created. And yes, I own the right to make prints of that art. But even when fans demand I make prints upon book release, I don’t do it @ that time. Why? Because I want the author and publisher to make $$$$$. But those art rights remain mine.

Thanks for posting this Analog. With all due respect this does not make any sense to me. I've had covers created for my books by their publishers. They hired artists. The Text copy right of Countess and Skin Thief belong to me. The artist for those covers doesn't sell that cover art elsewhere.
