Hey, folks. There's a @gofundme.com set up for artist Andy Fish, who is going through a very tough fight with two forms of cancer. He and his wife, cartoonist Veronica Fish (my Blackwood series cohorts) could use some help during this very tough time. I'm donating, hope you can. tinyurl.com/4wa86a6c

A BREATH OF STRANGE (2016) Acrylic on Canvas Board - 8” x 10” While I’m standing nose-to-artwork painting little details, I try to avoid having a big clumsy palette in my way. I’ll grab one of the little canvas or masonite panels I use for comps and mix paints on that. 1/4

A blue alien woman wearing an ornate butterfly-wing headdress leans forward while resting weight on one knee in a crouch. One hand is steadying her on the ground while the other—comprised of 3 fingers and a thumb—is held back with fingers splayed. Her mouth parts in a breath. Her skin is a cool contrast to the muddy yellows and oranges of the light suffusing an alien sky.

Example of what artists deal with re: copyright. eBay wrote back to ask what intellectual property right this listing violates. I had already sent the gallery page on our website, the color illustration, the book page for publication record, and the registration with the US copyright office. 1/2

Increasingly, Soylent Green serves as one of the best metaphors for AI -- it's taking all that we are, as people, chumming it up, and feeding the slurry back to us. We're told that we need it, it's nutritious, it'll save the world, even as it damns it and us.

ISLAND (2007) Acrylic on Panel - 30" x 40" There is a long tradition of using the concept of “island” as a metaphor for the world as a whole, as in “This Island Earth.” This painting—the first in a series of works employing that metaphor—began as a meditation... 1/7 #art

Surrounded by a circle of colorful glass orbs, a woman levitates above a grassy island oasis in a parking lot of cracked asphalt. A shooting star arcs down overhead across sky filled with billowing clouds. Rolling her shoulder, she turns towards its trajectory across fields of wheat and a horizon painted with golden light but she can't reach there while tethered to the island by a long strip of cloth tied around her ankle. The lead restraining her is knotted low on an ornamental staff staked at the edge of the grass. In her left hand she holds a metal loop that seems to have captured a green glass orb from the floating circle. Her right arm can be seen only in contour behind the flow of white fabric flapping in the breeze. The front edge of the cloth draping her covers only down to her hip. A slit in the side exposes skin from her waist up to her chest. Her legs and one shoulder remain bare.

ORB (1987) Acrylic - 28” x 20” As on my other Piers Anthony covers, the focus is the protagonist of the story. But this character appears only briefly in the story as a mother with green hair—usually she is described as an attractive young adult. 1/7 #art #booksky 🪐📚

On the grassy bed of the forest floor, a woman sits barefoot with a wooden harp leaning against her shoulder as she strums. On her head rests a circlet of daisies intermixed with berries. She wears a low cut white dress with the hem pulled up to expose one leg.A necklace of golden tokens is strung across her chest. With tilted head, she gives the audience a knowing glance. A pair of lilies, white and red, are tucked between the tuning pegs. Red Celtic knots borders with gold filigree decorate the soundboard.

LEGENDS: THE GUNSLINGER (1998/2000) Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 36" x 24" Stephen King doesn't describe the Dark Tower in the early books of the series, but many of the main characters experience dream visions of the object of their quest. 1/3 #art #booksky 🪐📚

Viewed from behind, Roland Deschain in a cowboy hat and tattered leather duster steps through an open doorway that hovers impossibly a foot off the ground. A gun is holstered on his left hip. On close examination, the index and middle finger of his right hand are shortened to stubs. At his feet lies a verdant thicket dotted with red roses and littered with human skulls. Straddling the doorway, the Gunslinger stands in awe of a massive, asymmetrical tower so tall that it blocks the sun. Traces of cloud sweep across the field of view and up the height of the tower, creating a hazy atmospheric effect that obscures the detail of the structure. Ravens circle the field just above the horizon. A pair are settled atop the upper left of the door. Another perches on a skull in the lower right.

The UK countryside is full of interdimensional portals. You just have to know where to look. I've decided to make a thread here of some of the best ones I've found on walks. 1. JRR Tolkien's Psychedelic Lime Kiln.

I can never resist getting inside an old lime kiln. This one was near Newton Abbott. The view up through the hole in the top of it to the overhanging trees on the ledge above is, I have to assume, even better than listening to the second Doors album on acid.
