Looking forward to @camarowrx.bsky.scocial chat! Also thinking back to a time when the rich cared about preserving something for future generations & not just themselves. #parkchat John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Creates a National Park - REsource share.google/TgefUyGbaBRQ...

Tomorrow, the House will vote on a constitutional amendment that would lock the number of Supreme Court Justices at 9—cementing a MAGA majority forever. We need a Court that protects our freedoms, not one filled with MAGA Justices who put Trump and billionaires over the people and the law.

Remember: Wealth can’t be separated from power. Power begets wealth and wealth begets power. We're seeing in real time how the extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics, rigging our markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of billionaires.

On a recent trip to the wetlands and creeksides of Wisconsin I frequently saw one of my favorite plants, Angelica atropurpurea. Common name Great Angelica. Indeed. The plants in the photo are nearly 10 feet tall. #ParkChat

Breeding Bird Survey (operated by the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, USGS) In Illinois, doing my first route this morning. Showing the sky at 5 stops in. Sun still below the horizon, and have yet to have enough light to use binoculars. Waking up at 3 am is tough, though. 😂

Q11. Thanks to #ParkChat I've learned a great deal about what it's like to be an NPS employee. I still have much to learn. What is something you'd like to know about working for the NPS? Perhaps a current or former NPS employee or friend can answer.

Q7. To become full-time rangers, mechanics, or maintenance workers, many employees have had to work several years in seasonal positions before being hired full-time. What do think of this system? How would you cope with seasonal work? #ParkChat

Q6. Some parks are in remove areas, away from urban centers, grocery stores, and other people. The employees must adapt to condition such as frequent power outages and infrequent trips to stores. How would you cope with these conditions? #ParkChat

Q4. Another visible employee in our parks is the Law Enforcement Ranger. The LE Ranger is there to protect both visitors and the resources, and enforce the laws. Have you met an LE Ranger during a park visit? What are your impressions of their jobs? #ParkChat

A2. This ranger is giving a talk to a school kids in front of Central High School in Little Rock, AR. Although there were no tours for adults when I visited, this kind ranger let me tag along with this class. I even got to go inside the school. He completely changed my day for the better. #ParkChat

A1. We had a brief look during the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020. With few or no employees around, parks were soon littered, toilets weren't cleaned, and damage occurred. Please let your Senators and US Representatives know how valuable the NPS employees are. #ParkChat

Q1. As a national parks visitor you're there to enjoy the parks, but many park employees are working to make your visit a success. If there were no NPS employees, how would your visit to our national parks be different? #ParkChat

A12.2: #ParkChat Book Club is about to discuss the first half of Ranger in Skirts by Shirley Sargent. The fictional book focuses on the one of the first female rangers in Yosemite NP (Beatrice Babbitt). We meet twice on this book: Tues, Apr. 21st and Tues, May 19 at 5 PM Pacific. DM me for deets.

A12, Part 2: There are a lot of distractions. I only have time to focus on the public lands items. The Roadless Rule Rescission Draft Environmental Impact Statement will soon be released. It would allow roads, logging, & mining in USFS wilderness areas. Attend a Roadless Rule Townhall. #ParkChat
