Conceptual corvid currently fixated on organizational topology, design systems as languages, structured content as embodied doctrine, antifascism, and shitposting as a service. My views do not represent those of my employer, no matter what they claim

unrelated: Berlin knows how to run a civilized airport. cappuccino machines every 40m or so, and pretzel carts every 120m. it’s like someone planned it.

not sure this is the right line. I’m reminded of @wil.to’s recommendation when I was hunting for a new tool for a project: buy a cheapass version and get it done; if it breaks in six months that’s a signal you’re using it enough to justify taking it seriously, and you’ll know better what you want.

Online shopping eliminated these gatekeepers and disintermediated the market, allowing consumers to express their desires more directly. And it turns out that what people really want is cheap disposable goods, not more expensive but higher quality stuff that lasts a long time.

so, the mega political email corpus — a decade of spam from conservatives and pure fund-raise from the DNC, 10,000+ messages total — is interesting. a bunch of manual batching and sorting and filtering and spot checking has teased out what I think is a rough taxonomy of subject lines.

Random question for the possibly-zero number of friends whose interests overlap in data science and far-right religious groups like NAR. …Is there anyone out there who'd be interested in a normalized corpus of ~30 years of "prophetic messages" that were published to a NAR audience of ~250,000?

It is worth noting that the internal budget rationale for things like publishing “troubleshooting instructions” and “knowledge base articles” often not “customer success” but “contact deflection.” That is, they are worth producing because they reduce the need for expensive human assistance.

The aim of customer chatbots is not to be useful, it’s to make you give up in despair and go away, having received what can contemptuously be referred to as ‘support’.

I’d also say that doing this in the opposite direction — saying “hey, these things mean something to each other; I will communicate that using visual/spatial/etc cues” is the heart of designing presentation systems for dynamic content, as opposed to one off artifacta

Great conversations today with my team about the overlap between “linguistic productivity” and effective design systems / content models. Linguistic productivity is the idea that sub-structures (adding -s to pluralize a noun, adding -er/-or to turn an verb into its actor) can be efficiency hacks:

Fight Club’s “snowflake” monologue satirized toxic masculinity. “Red Pill” comes from a movie by two trans women. “Fake News” was coined to describe right wing disinformation campaigns. “The Weaponized Justice Department” was supposed to highlight Trump’s attempts to steer the DOJ.

Cliche as it is, The Invisibles was a formative work for me. Not so much the first volume — it’s a good, bold series that stands head and shoulders above everything else I was reading at the time, but (for me at least) the life-altering stuff came near the end.

Just sent the beginning of the first Invisibles chapter to Patrons. www.patreon.com/posts/lwia-4... Next time: 👽🇳🇵🛸 (Yes, first Invisibles chapter. I'll be doing one chapter per volume.)

The first step is to remove the people most likely to shape the ideas :.. which is why I am always going to point out The FIRST thing Weiss did was get rid of Black and Brown reporters which journalism itself has been doing for years And nobody said anything and still doesn’t

Reminded again of Jaques Ellul’s definition of propaganda — not a specific message, but the establishment of an information landscape where opposing ideas are crowded out by a cacophony of vaguely pro-regime ideas, none of which need be particularly convincing or even compatible with each other.

“.. The search implies that if Paramount Skydance's deal with Warner Bros. Discovery goes through, Weiss would oversee all news editorial across both CBS News and CNN.” @axios.com $PSKY www.axios.com/2026/06/09/c...

at its best historical mefi was a community of people who exercised a shared commitment to argue with each other in good faith. at its worst, an enormous dysfunctional polycule where everyone knew everyone’s hot buttons and mentioning the dishes was a MAD event

In the real world, enduring progress comes through non-zero-sum cooperation over time, and anyone who has worked in a professional context knows that nothing makes such cooperation more difficult than the presence of egotistical men convinced they are bold risk-takers possessed of masculine energy.
