New podcast episode is out today at What to Carry, What to Burn! This one's the story of Valerian Albanov, who escapes an icebound ship and ends up the reluctant leader of a trek across the frozen sea. Featuring thieves, lice, kayaks made out of barrels, and polar bear livers.
My theory: survival stories and true crime are actually photo negatives of each other, because in true crime, someone's dead who should be alive, and in survival, someone's alive who should be dead, and in both cases you're trying to figure out why

Sometimes I think about how absolutely bonkers Stargate SG-1 was, and how much I desperately want to write a multi-franchise, several year-long joke that culminates in the brilliance of "I think his name is Homer."
Because this is the sort of thing I enjoy, the first articles about the Ganga were in early April 2020. Two weeks. And there are fish in Venice, but the water usually so churned up you can't see them. "The Year The Earth Changed" (Attenborough, Apple) is excellent.

The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Veilguard fanfic ideas: A Rook who is a Nevarran mage, but *not* in the Mourn Watch, and therefore more than a little frustrated by Emmrich’s (entirely unintentional) relative freedoms. Like, I don't think any of the mages in Veilguard have ever been Silenced, for example.
