Worst April drought in contiguous U.S. history: Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) was the lowest on record for any April, at -7.56. The only worse drought conditions: March 2026 (PDSI of -7.85), and during the Dust Bowl months of July-August 1934 (PDSI of -8.09 and -8.42, respectively).

It’s up to the rest of the world to help fix climate change as the U.S. simply won’t. How to do this? Reduce emissions, period. One way to do this is to shun products from any U.S. based business unless they are trying to reduce emissions. This will circumvent any idiocy Trump comes up with.

Clean renewable energy like wind, solar and hydro is vital, of course. I think virtually everyone agrees on that. It's just that we need to be mindful that it too impacts the environment. Though less than using fossil fuel. The rub is the usual how much & often, where, etc.

Roadside litter astonishes and continues unabated. I just walked 1/2 mi and picked up a rubber bungie cord, a nice set of beads (plastic, of course, but would definitely be an item someone would buy) and a good pair of sunglasses with only 2 minor scratches.

We have a final deal on our 2040 climate target ✅ We now have a legally binding 90% GHG reduction target: 85% domestic cuts + up to 5% international credits. This is an ambitious and pragmatic agreement that brings predictability and flexibility for everyone.

Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on. As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

Does anyone driving/talking abt the AI train PAUSE to consider the harms? We can accomplish needed goals 85% without it! Good 'nuf! It's like a car that races to the red stop light. Our young adult get pink slips midst developing skills for a bit of variation and fulfillment in their lives. Oh well!
