You have probably already seen it, but I have a new piece out in Inside Higher Ed, co-written with Sam Helmick (2025–26 ALA president). It's a response to an essay arguing that academic libraries should hire Ph.D.’s rather than credentialed librarians and, more broadly, it's about why credential erosion is a fight our profession needs to take seriously. This book of short stories was super good! Weird, dark, and horror tales from a slightly different perspective. Folk horror fans will especially like this one!

The big literary discourse on twitter right now is whether The Hobbit—a children’s book that won children’s lit awards and was literally written for the author’s children—is appropriate reading for children or in fact such a difficult book most adults can’t “get their head around” it.

The thing is yes, paper maps, but also: You naturally learned how to get around more than people do now. I knew my way around my early neighborhoods where I drove a lot better than I have in the ones where I had GPS all the time.

One thing I've always hated about online publishing is writers/bloggers being called "editors". Editing is both a skill and an art, and it's not writing. This calling everyone an editor shit devalues what editors actually do. When everyone is an editor, no one is an editor.
