As someone who actively develops OSS, this trend of US frontier models not willing to help secure the OSS for the end user is deeply concerning. I'm resorting to open weight models like GLM 5.2 & Kimi K3 to ensure good quality security (hopefully) for the community.

Nearly two decades of AI/ML and product experience at companies like Apple, Netflix, Stitch Fix, and Scenset. I love breaking down cutting-edge technologies into actionable products for the technically curious.
When LLMs use the em dash, it's almost painful to look at. Why do many of the models use them in excess?!? After extensive research, it looks like 2 things are happening in the fine tuning process: 1. Contamination 2. Amplification
As a former astrophysicist, I'm constantly in agreement with this. "That star is somewhere between 500 to 1500 light years away" 😂
From a startup CTO: "Over the break, I realized how good these models have gotten. This year we'll be using them ~10x more vs last year. So my first order of business: I want to find a solution to measure our *current* dev productivity so I have a baseline to compare to, later."
Many recent posts on free energy. Here is a summary from my class “Statistical mechanics of learning and computation” on the many relations between free energy, KL divergence, large deviation theory, entropy, Boltzmann distribution, cumulants, Legendre duality, saddle points, fluctuation-response…
A horrible story but god bless this woman so accurately reading the ICE goons for filth here
Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...
One of the happiest updates I’ve written since I started following this story. 12 students back in status and maybe more to come. Across the country, students are saying their SEVIS is back. www.dailycal.org/news/campus/...
12 UC Berkeley students' visas restored by ICE in nationwide reversal
At UC Berkeley, 12 students have had their status restored today after 23 were terminated since April 4.

As part of their plan to GUT the science mission at NASA, Trump and Musk want to cancel the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope — a critical project that is on time, under budget, and nearly finished. They want to flush those taxpayer dollars down the drain. How is THAT efficient?

Under the Trump administration’s theory of the law, the government could have banished this U.S. citizen to a Salvadoran prison then refused to do anything to bring him back. This is why the Constitution guarantees due process to all. Could it be more obvious? news.azpm.org/p/news-artic...

A reminder that NSF is explicitly breaking the law if/when they attempt to cancel grants that focus on promoting participation in science by underrepresented groups on that basis, incl women in science programs like NSF ADVANCE. Congress expressly directs the NSF to grant funds for this purpose. 🧪
LAWLESS NSF: Every NSF employee who is following the director on this funding freeze and fishing expedition is in violation of US code. per the post below, this language has been reauthorized twice, most recently by Biden in 2022 as the CHIPS Act. www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/... 🧪
Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale
NSF has posted an “update on priorities.” They’re canceling all “DEI and misinformation/disinformation” grants. And the guidance on how to fulfill the longstanding, legally mandated Broadening Participation requirement is utterly incoherent. www.nsf.gov/updates-on-p...
🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read. He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:
Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally abducted by the Trump Admin and, by their own admission, wrongly deported to El Salvador. He shouldn’t have to spend another second away from his family. I'm flying to El Salvador tomorrow morning to check on his condition and discuss his return.
I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

First it was illegal immigrants, then green card holders, and now it's US citizens. This is slippery slope that is only going to get more slippery. **All in less than 3 months.** It's going to get much worse unless we apply pressure to protect democracy. www.nbcboston.com/news/politic...

DOGE is a criminal conspiracy to defraud the people of the United States
