Spotted Joe-Pye Eutrochium maculatum Joe was a real Mohican healer named Schauquethqueat (settler name Joseph Pye). He used the E. purpureum for fevers in the late 1700s. The legend of him saving a colonial town from plague is a myth. His memory is honored by the name nonetheless. #NativePlants

Spiraea alba (White Meadowsweet) is named for the spiral arrangement and the white undersides of the leaves. Usually larger plants growing in a moist meadow, here they are, small, but blooming like mad in the understory of this swamp. #bloomscrollling #wildflowers #nativeplants #ecoregion59

Chamaecrista fasciculata, Partridge Peas, are a particularly good friend of mine. I got seeds from a friend I met in a gardening group in Arlington, MA, while masked outdoors in the summer of 2020. I'll share some of the reasons that I love them below.

If you plant them once, you have them forever. They're also a host plant for Sulphur Butterflies. 🌱 #nativeplants Sound up to hear the buzz!

My next door neighbor & I each cook dinner for the other once a week & deliver the meal to each other’s house. It means we each have to make a decent, healthy-ish, balanced meal once a week, and we each have one night when we know we’re getting a good meal with no work or planning. It’s amazing.
These two appear to be friends; they hang out together a lot. Rhus glabra (Smooth Sumac, cashew family) and Calystegia sepium spp ? (Hedge False Bindweed, morning glory family) I have some work to do to determine whether the false bindweed is a native subspecies. #nativeplants #ecoregion59
