Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

In Theaters: The slow national rollout of director Kyoshi Kurosawa's new film, THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER, begins today. EoM Contributor @andrewjeisenman.bsky.social calls the adaptive work, "... a good film, but disappoints in the obvious greatness of its aspirations and premise... ."

Unfortunately, with my wife being essentially forced into retirement our financial situation has gone from bad to worse. we are still waiting on a number of checks & reimbursements but have past due bills & expenses we can no longer burden our families with & need help. (Thread)

Pretty proud of this one, so resharing for the evening crowd. I know it's published late, but it could be worth a read, yeah?

Forgot to include #TheOdysseyMovie & my spoiler-free review just dropped, too. Here is my offering to the discourse: Gods don’t make heroes, people do — and in the recitation of their deeds, tend to forget, remove, or gloss over the victims of the choices when said person is raised into notoriety.

very seriously though if any outlets need help covering the upcoming It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season I'm an expert and have recapped whole seasons for other publications

Writers, stop using Gen AI products. In addition to the many other reasons it sucks (tech based on theft, tool of fascism, makes your brain soft) if you are found out, companies that might've wanted to republish you internationally, adapt for film/TV, etc., will label you a lawsuit risk & walk away.

More info: "The problem: publishers and movie companies may not be able to register copyright and come away with a clear title chain if there are certain AI elements in the mix. That’s because AI-aided copy is an amalgamation of many other copyrighted works." deadline.com/2026/07/ai-q...
