The Hopkins Lab (hopkins-lab.com) at the University of Florida is looking to recruit a postdoc to work on the genetics of organ function and evolution across Drosophila and beyond. Please visit tinyurl.com/vcsjpmzz or email me for more info. And please RT or send to anyone who might be interested!

What a summer it’s been! We built our Drosophila experimental evolution mesocosms and are running our first experiment! I’m ecstatic to be able to pair our study genetic and neural mechanisms of behavior evolution in the lab with how behaviors evolve in nature!

Excited / nervous to share the “magnum opus” of my postdoc in Andreas Wagner’s lab! "De-novo promoters emerge more readily from random DNA than from genomic DNA" This project is the accumulation of 4 years of work, and lays the foundation for my future group. In short, we… (1/4)

De-novo promoters emerge more readily from random DNA than from genomic DNA

Promoters are DNA sequences that help to initiate transcription. Point mutations can create de-novo promoters, which can consequently transcribe inactive genes or create novel transcripts. We know lit...

Congratulations to technician Emily who gave her first talk today ever at our Quantitative Ecology and Evolution seminar. She did a great job and answered lots of questions throughout her presentation. I’m really proud of her for sharing research in progress and getting feedback!

#proudPI: freshmen Emily, Paul, Elise, Evan, & Tobias presented 2 posters at the Wetterhahn Symposium. Earlier this spring technician Emily presented at Neuroscience Day and Guirani Poster Symposium. I’m impressed at what we’ve achieved >1 year & excited to keep working with such an amazing team!

I am thrilled to start an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth College in July 2024. We will study genetic & neural basis of behavior evolution & how behavior affects evolution. Recruiting talented & enthusiastic scientists to join the lab!
