My group is currently developing a section in our code of conduct on the use of genAI within research. What are some positive uses people can see for its use both individually and in science? I for one am excited for the end of authors only included for polishing the English in a ms....

I assigned random gender/ethnicity labels to scientific abstracts from the literature and then asked Claude to do a thematic analysis. Claude identified a clinical versus computational split for female/male authors and a DEI focus for Black/URM authors. All in completely random data.

I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?

Sometimes my job is answering angry emails and dealing with buggy code. And sometimes my job is laying out plots in the woods. Today is one of those better days.

Reviewer crisis? I just got 3 invitations to review in 15 minutes from a single (reputable, but Elsevier) journal. All completely outside my interest/expertise. I'm an AE & though I find getting reviews a bit harder than 10 years ago, this behaviour makes me think we have an editor crisis too.

On the back of being quoted I was contacted by a research administrator at a different Uni. She wants to stay anonymous. She has worked on this call all weekend. She didn't feel able to say no. Nor did the researchers. Unlike them she will not benefit in any material way if her Uni wins this money.

This year I found out that the International Women's Day .com website which says things like "IWD Event Managers are encouraged to invite nonprofit speakers and guests, exhibit nonprofit displays, distribute nonprofit resources, and establish ongoing giving." Is run by a for-profit private org

For what it's worth this is my full quote. I would love to understand from @ukri.org why this call has been restricted to 4 weeks (with no advanced warning) going against it's own EDI commitments. The response so far doesn't explain why only 4 weeks nor why not 8 weeks.
