I stopped at the end of chapter one a few days ago, on account of going to visit my parents for the weekend. That was my first mistake. My second mistake was reading the second chapter like 15 minutes ago and now having to explain to my parents why I'm in tears right now. The story is really good.

When I first started reading Aftertaste, I had to put it down after the second chapter for a while. There was something in there... and I wasn't ready to deal with that. Not yet. The second time, I only made it six chapters in. But this time? I knew what the thing was. And I knew what I had to do.

Aftertaste is a Toxic Yuri. Sort of. It is a Force-Femme Novel. Maybe. It is a LOT. It can hurt. Some people have to stop reading it part way through. but those who have read to the end tend to message me with something like Ashlynn did. It is strange and wonderful to get notes like hers.

Aftertaste 79 fucking lol Never taking any selfies? Trying to avoid her reflection? That was just because... Wait. What DO I LOOK LIKE? Holy shit. What does my face look like? She runs to the now pristine bathroom mirror and looks at the face she avoided seeing for 24 years. A man - no, a boy, really (why does she feel so old at 24?) is looking back at her in the mirror. The boy has a wispy black mustache from a few days' growth, with a straggly beard and patchy neck hairs to match. He has a very prominent Adam's Apple. His nose is hooked and, turning her face to the side to get a better view, larger than she thought it was. The boy's jaw is wide and protruding. His oily black hair is just long enough to be unkempt. His forehead sits protruding in a very masculine manner above her eyes. Wait. His forehead sits above her eyes. She looks into them. They're hazel. The lashes are short. The lids are hooded, giving her an almost half-asleep appearance. But. They are her eyes, and she sees them. "Hi." She's cried a dozen times over the last few days, but she doesn't start crying now. She sees eyes that have been hiding pain in their recesses as long as they've been able to open. They are the eyes of a wounded animal searching for a more capable creature to help them. Prey eyes, exhausted from a lifetime of running from predators. She places a hand on the mirror and leans her forehead against the glass. "It's okay. You're okay."
