I was in Rio Grande do Sul in June. We were there to see my girlfriend’s ailing grandmother, so there wasn’t much sightseeing, but we did get a chance to visit Praia da Guarita in Torres. Gorgeous part of the world.

I will never get into a debate about people’s fundamental humanity. If you want to argue that Black people, trans people, immigrants, Muslims, or any one else is less than the most you’ll get out of me is a “fuck you.”

Thinking of my dad this Labor Day. He spent twenty years shoveling slag into an open-hearth oven before switching gears,& becoming a staff rep for the United Steelworkers union. He eventually became International Treasurer of the USW. He left it all out on the field for his people. I sure miss him.

The thing to understand is these people will just be emboldened. It doesnt fit the progressive vision or the centrist one but you can't placate these people.
Literally every 5 years or so the north was like, "we'll give 80% of what you want if you promise to chill out." The south would shake on it and then flip out when they got it.
The "states' rights" hypocrisy is infuriating when you look at how much the South loved using the federal government to enforce slavery in the Free States (Dred Scot, Prigg v. Pennsylvania, Fugitive Slave Acts, etc.)
Antebellum politics is fascinating, the South kept getting policy concessions and whipped themselves up into a paranoid rage anyway, essentially because they couldn't stand being culturally judged for having slaves

Yes, policy concessions are typically perceived as weakness. By both the voters they're trying to get back but also the extremists themselves. It validates the extremist party and voters will rather stick with the original. Worst type of reaction.
We need a moratorium on this kind of post unless the poster can accurately describe the number of households without electricity and running water when the new deal was passed
