You ever notice how FAMILY GUY has done multiple episodes about Brian trying to do something intellectual or artistic, only to deliberately sell out and dumb it down until it becomes unrecognizable and directly aimed at the lowest common denominator?
Zach Cregger's last to films were predicted on unfolding mysteries that make the audience go "what the fuck is going on?" With RESIDENT EVIL, everyone (including the audience) knows what's going on *except* for the main protagonist. Very funny.

It's the works of John Milius, particularly CONAN THE BARBARIAN and RED DAWN. RED DAWN specifically, because it's such a Regan era fantasy, but what fascinates me about Milius is his embrace of conservatism as a death cult. Most try to hide or are in denial about that, but not him.
