Marine Scientist/Advocate/Enthusiast | I like birds | she/her | Newport, RI hyperlocal | I pay too much attention for my own good | Opinions my own |

I’m honored to support @dawneuer.bsky.social in her reelection. Over her time in the Senate, she has been a steadfast champion for the environment, health care & reproductive rights, and good governance. She has delivered results for Newporters and I am confident she’ll continue to do so.

“"Dawn is the environmental
champion we need in the statehouse.
She understands environmental policy and the nuance of the challenges our island is facing as the climate changes. She translates that understanding to action - she wrote the Act on Climate and is working to keep all parties accountable to the law. I trust Dawn to stand up for our communities and give voice to those who aren't always heard, especially in terms of environmental justice."

Earlier this summer, I posted through a Council meeting where we discussed a lot of big important topics, including Councilor Smyth’s resolution on limiting new or converted hotel development. Here’s my testimony from that meeting 👇👇

Councilor Smyth put forth a resolution earlier this year directing city staff to examine our ordinances & regulations around hotels and propose changes to prevent runaway expansion. Though the resolution failed, I spoke in favor.

Thank you for writing this, Christian. @dawneuer.bsky.social is the climate champion we need in the statehouse.

Last week @whatsupnewp.com published my op-ed on why we need to bring @dawneuer.bsky.social back to the Rhode Island Senate. tldr; Dawn has tremendous technical knowledge of utility & energy matters & is a real fighter in terms of addressing the #climatecrisis. /1 whatsupnewp.com/2026/07/lett...

Guys I’m thinking about if (when! Training myself to believe!) I’m elected in the fall and what will happen to the effort I’ve spent 5 years building. Is anyone interested in taking over meeting live tweeting? It can be a group effort. I would like to identify folks & teach them the trade!

Hello and welcome to #CityCouncil #NewportRI! Our agenda is here: cityofnewport.granicus.com/GeneratedAge... All Councilors are present except Councilor Xay. (1/?)

To emphasize a point Snitty makes in her thread: Excluding trans kids from sports is about cutting them out of public life. The lies people pushed about "fairness" were a thin cover for anti-trans bigotry. For most athletes sports are about socialization. They're taking that away from trans kids.

Reposting an old thread of mine to say as a former college athlete, I want trans girls and trans women to be able to participate in sports. Let them run, let them swim, let them play.

Come sign my papers tonight at the elks and tell your Newport voter friends to come out! Lots of candidates will be in attendance so even if you’re not Ward 2, you can help some great folks get on the ballot.

Another campaign milestone, another video at Newport City Hall. I have my nomination papers and I need at least 50 signatures to get on the ballot. Ward 2 voters, meet me at the Elks tonight or around town until July 10 to sign!

Just spent 45 min singing with the Newport singing resistance and I truly don’t think my spirits have ever been higher heading into Council. Mandatory freedom & liberation songs before every meeting if I’m elected 🤣🤣 see you in chambers in ten minutes! (1/?)

Officially declared my candidacy today! Excited to take this step and file with the state of RI. Now I need signatures from Ward 2 voters to get on the ballot. If you’re a Ward 2 voter, meet me and the Newport Dem City Committee at the Elks next Tuesday, 6/30 from 5:30-7:30pm.

I will say, since joining @pvdstreets.org's board, I've become more anxious about dying from traffic violence, even though we're working to end it (which is, in actuality, a totally achievable goal). These deaths are made all the more tragic for having never needed to happen at all.

Tragic news today: the eminent historian Gordon S. Wood was struck and killed while walking in the Shaw's plaza in East Providence, his family confirms to me. No comment from Brown yet Wood was just featured in Ken Burns' American Revolution documentary www.wpri.com/news/local-n...

I believe what I missed at this point because I was very close to having a full out fit was that Carlin was asking Nolan if it’s appropriate to use reimbursement from the state for anything other than paying down the bond principal/interest or reimbursing the taxpayers.

Emily Conklin @emzconk.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Nolan says this is a structural issue and this appropriation would give the school the time to reevaluate. Carlin says oh so like we gave them more money the last 3 years to figure it out, yet we're back in this situation? The bitterness this man shows for the schools. (20/?)
