This headline is subtle consent manufacturing. Instead of talking about how people are miserable because of logistical incompetence while they're being sent off to die on an unethical mission... LITTLE JOYS AMIRITE ISN'T THIS HEARTWARMING? /s Shifting focus dishonestly is a form of manipulation.

A photo of people splashing in an outdoor pool over the headline "USS Lincoln sailors delight in the simple stuff as they get their first break in months in Thailand"

There is no viewpoint which is made stronger by ignoring evidence that contradicts it. Viewpoints, really points of view, change as a person moves through their life. If your viewpoint hasn't changed then ultimately it is because you haven't changed. Bigotry grows in stasis.

I will add pressure to this by saying that any company that claims to not hold onto your personal data after verifying you? They're lying. Ive been nitro free since the first time they tried this, voice how you feel with your wallet people. Make them really feel that squeeze.

Re: Brubaker, Ellis, etc. Good work is good work. I don't feel duped for having bought and enjoyed good stories. HOWEVER, good work is not unique. And let it be known that producing good work does not allow for bad behavior. It is also not a shield that will prevent someone from kicking your ass.

There is genuinely something broken in you if you are an artist and the thing that gnaws at you at night is not related to your artistry, but is jealousy over the fact that you cannot abuse people like the straight, white, male industry legend you aspire to be. Why do you want to be an abuser?

The goal (if you are a decent person) is to get in that position, collect your flowers, do some incredible work, and enjoy that creative freedom and bump in pay. THOSE are the perks of the job. Shoveling **** onto the person under you is not.

It's interesting to note that some of the legends in comics who were very vocal about the mistreatment of comic industry professionals in the Hollywood machine didn't really care about respect for comics. They cared about their individual treatment. To be acknowledged as special little boys.

I say this because I want us--as a people, as an industry--to get less comfortable. No, you don't have to tolerate a bad situation. Yes, somebody else can write Batman. A lot of somebodies! And the work will still be good. It will still sell.

Doubling back. When I say that everyone is replaceable? I mean it. I'm not on some high horse. I am replaceable. I've been replaced. (Thankfully, not for touching on somebody or wilding out since I have common sense.) Hell, I may have replaced someone myself and not known it.

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.

The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

"Mr. Mamdani is a master of new media... But as mayor, he has also been able to use taxpayer funds to create a sprawling network of hundreds of friendly influencers to boost his priorities, provide positive depictions of his administration and enhance his popularity."
