Phenomenologically parsimonious. I perceive, therefore I understand . Sum, ergo cogito. Old me: https://epicureandealmaker.blogspot.com

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

while I'd prefer he shakes off this mortal coil sooner than later it will be delicious to have him witness our joy at tearing down all his crap

Trump spends “a ton” of time worrying about future efforts by Democrats to tear down Trump-branded public properties. @swin24.bsky.social & @andrewperez.bsky.social explain how Trump's forcing officials to brainstorm legal arguments for institutionalizing his cult forever: zeteo.com/p/de-trumpif...

there is no meaningful political opposition to the genocide among israelis, there is not a liberal political solution to this. they are not going to vote to stop being a genocidal apartheid state, pressure needs to be put on them from outside just as it was in south africa and rhodesia.

When you’ve lost a double Ballon d’Or winner and the best center back in women’s football, your three-time Ballon d’Or winner is not fully fit, and you’re fielding Barça B as starters, it’s just another day at the office for the best team in women’s football. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯ www.espn.com/soccer/story...

Putellas gone? Bonmati injured? It won't stop Barcelona

Real Madrid hope to close the gap with Barcelona, but even without the likes of Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati, Barca are unstoppable.

Watching extended highlights of Barça Femeni’s 7-nil demolition of Real Madrid last night and it became apparent just how much of the blaugranas’ success was due to preternatural passing by Patri Guijarro. Amazing.

Laziness is a human weakness that cuts across all demographic lines, including intellect and achievement, but passing off AI-generated work as your own rises to another level: intellectual fraud. Plagiarism used to be the intellectual vice we worried about. Now it’s machine-enabled fraud.

What kills me is that it's no longer Internet randos using AI to cosplay as philosophers, historians or scientists. It's established philosophers, historians and scientists surrendering their hard-won intellectual agency and integrity in a rapid cascade, faster than even my darkest prediction. 1/1

this kind of chart doubles down on the dumb in “social science” and economics. the dumb comes from lossily compressing complex phenomena into rankable scalars, then using arithmetic and ranking to launder claims into “scientific” truths. 1/

What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌
