I will reiterate, when I tested AI detection tools on fiction, they were more likely to flag human-written fiction as AI than they were to catch AI-generated fiction.

I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.

Yup, Republicans LOVE to distort stats like this—basically saying a place or company or wherever has more X (where X is bad) when what’s actually going on is the source is more responsible about tracking and reporting occurrences of X.

When you do read The Jungle, friends, read the uncensored, original version. It is not only the horror of the animal processing and food packing standards, but the working conditions, lack of medical care, housing schemes and rampant exploitation and disposal of workers without protections.

This book should be required reading for all Americans, preferably when they are teenagers. And maybe again in College to re-enforce the lessons. Regulations are NECESSARY in a capitalist society. Period.
Republicans also assumed that Dobbs meant you would automatically ban 'bad' abortions for women who didn't 'deserve' them - slutty sluts who got knocked up after a drunken one night stand. Law & medicine don't work that way. You can have an abortion for a wanted pregnancy.
One of the undercovered dynamics of the Dobbs decision is that Republicans assumed every state would ban abortion. They - as Alito made clear in his pissy mife dissent - did not grasp that most people in most states support abortion rights & that states like Colorado would *expand* abortion access.

I do feel like the extractive enshittification of everything and brands being a commodity unto themselves rather than a guarantee of consistency is starting to undermine Boots Theory, but yes, still worth reading Pratchett.

I have no idea what to do with this Covid revisionism. It feels like the bad kind of group therapy where you help each other ignore facts. We don't have to go *that* far back in the social media timelines to prove how fucked up it was. We were so scared we were scrubbing eggs and baking the mail.
