(1/2) Thank you to everyone who attended our political economy panel at "What is Research"! I really enjoyed the engagement we had, and presenting with some of my closest friends was such an honor.
BREAKING: The Senate narrowly advanced a plan to add up to an extra $140 billion to ICE and CBP's record high budget. This is the first step by Congress to give another blank check to these out-of-control agencies without any strings attached, all while cutting benefits for our communities.
Who decided it was a good idea to have me present two papers at a conference across the country? (It was me. I leave Wednesday, oops)
Bernie Sanders: “I will be forcing a vote on legislation to block the sale of nearly half a billion dollars worth of bombs and bulldozers to the Israeli military.” Go Bernie!
“We always seem to have money for war. But not to feed the poor.”
Two young boys were locked up inside ICE's notorious detention center in Texas. Then Ms. Rachel shared their stories.

BREAKING: President Trump has issued an unlawful executive order attempting to severely restrict mail-in voting. The Constitution is clear: Only the states or Congress can change election laws.
Thank you to everyone who attended our SCMS panel! This was an fun project to work on. The Q&A discussion after was great; we were all a bunch of nerds talking about fan culture. I didn't attend as many panels as I would've liked, but I did enjoy my time there, and hope to be back next year!
Another conference that I came back to Bluesky for and this time it is for my first #scms26. I had a great time yesterday presenting my work on meme-inspired micro-transactions in video games and chairing the panel! Thanks to all who attended, really enjoyed all the presentations and discussion!
Presenting at #SCMS26 for the first time! If anyone is interested in seeing Abby and I talk about Netflix's Love on the Spectrum, we're on Saturday 2:15-4:00 @abbysimmerman.bsky.social

Better late than never, but wanted to share that I was interviewed for an article on youth mental health apps a few months ago. It's a great read (no bias I promise!), highly recommend checking out the article!
Youth mental health? There’s an app — many apps — for that. But are they effective?

Blows my mind that I'm about to graduate soon. A year ago today I was really worried about finishing my dissertation, especially with some health issues that made typing really difficult. I've done everything besides walk across the stage, and then maybe it'll feel real!
I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy. I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

We sent a letter to FIFA expressing concern over their silence on President Trump's anti-immigrant policies. FIFA must urge the Trump administration to protect the rights of foreign visitors and immigrants who already live, work, and contribute to the communities selected to host the World Cup.
