Took me three tries to spell “yippee” correctly (🤦♀️) but just put in a preorder from @oldtownbooks.bsky.social for this essential read. It’s a family favorite action movie, and I can’t wait to read this research. Now hopefully I remember I ordered it and don’t try to buy another copy in six months.
My new book "Yippee Ki‐Yay:“Die Hard,” Bruce Willis, and the Reinvention of the Action Movie" is available for pre-order wherever you get your books! bookshop.org/p/books/yipp...
As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.
There is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter series
You can’t without supporting Rowling’s transphobic bigotry.

Yahoo really thinks I’m playing for serious in this league. I’m playing for JOY. 🦄 Also, a new photo dropped of my team captain. Perfection.
My coworker invited me to play in our department fantasy football league. I know nothing about sportsball players (but I do know the game.) So I opted to make my team with vibes… all my players are named Travis, Taylor, Swift, Jason, Austin, or something with “Tay” in it. This is my report card.
D.C. folks, as well as plane people who will be in Washington on the right dates: You can watch Come From Away IRL at Ford's Theatre from Sept. 10 through Oct. 18.
As our president tries to paint Canada as an enemy during the 25th anniversary of 9/11, it might be a good time to see "Come From Away," the story of a small Canadians town embrace of Americans stuck there after the terror attack. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af77...
Post something random or you’ll have an awful September (remember those chain mail emails that were scams but here we do this for shits and giggles?)

Knowing that the Queen of Internet Recipes is a fan of the cookbook I’m obsessed with is oddly validating. It feels like it couldn’t exist without the world of smitten kitchen, and I love the idea that these little universes are more like sisters than competitors.
Good morning! This week’s Smitten Kitchen Digest is all about not surrendering summer cooking before absolutely necessary. Plus, a new recipe for a peach cobbler loaf and an interview with Rebecca Eisenberg, whose new cookbook is absolutely brilliant. smittenkitchen.substack.com/p/summers-la...
I made a little template for use by cool small businesses! Enjoy!

These people have obviously never purchased a dozen bagels in New Jersey.
my takeaway from the replies is a truly staggering number of people think a bakers dozen =12
Not a complete fail! I forgot the dough in the warmer until 9am (oops) and it finally rose. So I put on some oil, poked some holes, fired up the oven and gave it a whirl. It’s not super fluffy like focaccia should be, but it’s got a little bit of crumb and it’s totally edible. I love baking.
Baking fail tonight, but a book-premise win! My yeast finally died after over 4 years in the freezer. Instead of discovering this in a full recipe for focaccia, I only lose one cup of flour. Fantastic! And now, I need to get new yeast. Old Town’s @kingarthurbaking.bsky.social needs to open soon!

Picked up my copy of @ryeisenberg.bsky.social’s new book, Small Batch Breads, from @oldtownbooks.bsky.social today. I am SO excited to try everything in here! All sorts of new-to-me recipes in a low-stakes format (1c of flour!) and accompanied by gorgeous photos. I’m not sure where to start first!
Looks similar to the flowers/monarch I saw in a neighbor’s yard tonight. I stop for every butterfly. They are magical and should always be treated with reverence.
Always a delight to have a Monarch butterfly stop by the backyard. It may look like this photo has been rotated but the Missouri Ironweed was drooping off to the side.
Not true; the 70s were only 30 years ago, so it would be Van Halen.
Watching Back to the Future with the kiddos and realizing that if it were set in 2026 the music he’d hear when he went back 30 years is the Macarena.

Totally did a double take on this photo as I scrolled by. We are currently rewatching Voyager and I thought I saw Robert Picardo and was like “that can’t be…” Oh, it can. It can. And it is. It’s all of them. AI could never.
