Definitely NOT a badge of honor, as Meg notes below. As a brown midlist author, it's hard enough to get the word out about my books--so if they get banned, that's it. You can't buy or borrow what you don't know exists. (And the author gets blamed for poor sales numbers and can't sell future books.)

Please remember that for every VE Schwab and Stephen King, there are a lot of banned Black, queer, and POC writers you've never heard of, to whom it is maybe not a badge of honor but a denial of their voice. Being banned is not a marketing opportunity, unless one is already rich.

how are Rage Against the Machine still managing to shock people with their politics that band is 35 years old. are people shocked that woody guthrie was a leftist too? going on god’s own internet all ‘you’ll never believe what i just learned about karl marx’?

Here is the video of my poem, The Secret Of The Poets, which has gone mini-viral on insta. It's about the use of generative AI for emotional moments. I had three minutes on the biggest stage I'm ever likely to have, and this is what I did with it. I've also posted the text version (see below).

It's shameful how little the gov't is doing to bring justice to MMIWG2S+ and their loved ones. These lost lives are worth more than platitudes & empty promises. This should be a top priority, and yet those with the power to do something just don't. They need to be held to account.

It is the stories of survivors and families that informed the critical National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which released 231 Calls for Justice in 2019 outlining the steps necessary to end the ongoing genocide. But seven years later, only two have been implemented, and 82 have not even been started. While the TV House of Commons unanimously recognized MMIWG2S+ as a Canada-wide emergency, the government has failed to respond with the urgency and resources needed.

October 4th is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people, also known as Sisters in Spirit Day. Please read my full statement here:

Went out on a rare excursion today to get some fun things for my niece's Spooky Season gift at Obscurity Shop and ended up finding myself this print. It's a *perfect* reward for finishing the manuscript I worked on for 8 years, which will unfortunately likely never get published.

A skull and ferns against a black background.

Projects that truly serve the national interest would lower costs, create good jobs, protect our environment and prepare us for the green economy of the future.

The oil industry is unwilling to pay for this pipeline because even they know the world is moving away from fossil fuels. This project leaves Canadians bearing all the risks of a bad investment without any of the rewards.

Predictably, instead of trying to change hockey culture or lifting the ban on Pride Night jerseys, the NHL is hiring romance authors to write short stories that wink at the insinuation that NHL stars might be into each other without ever needing to support any actual gay people.

The nhl would rather do whatever the hell this is than have a dv/sa policy www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/202...

A lot of you can't stop conflating cognitive, psychiatric, & neurodevelopmental disabilities with immoral behaviour, bc it's easier to pathologize ppl for making shitty choices than it is to acknowledge we're all inherently capable (intentionally or not) of causing grave harm. You're not immune.

Yep, junior hockey is a prime example of this. The descriptions of hazing in Rick Westhead's book, We Breed Lions, were horrifying. Basically older players sexually abusing rookies. When boys are steeped in that toxicity it's no bloody wonder they go on to assault girls/women.

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

The Liberal Government is slated to CUT ALL FUNDING for the Indian Residential School Resolution Health Support Program (IRS-RHSP) on March 31, 2028. There will be NO further funding allocated for these life-saving programs that support survivors and their families.

Elizabethan playhouses were supplied by a network of tailors, merchants & craftswomen. Their names survive in records, but little is known about their lives. I’m working on new research that brings the stories of these makers & traders centre stage. Here is the project in biscuit (cookie) form. 🍪

A photograph of eight rectangular biscuits (cookies) arranged in two rows on a square white plate. The plate is framed on all sides by a trailing vine pattern in green with pops of red. The biscuits are mostly in shades of ivory, cream, yellow, and grey, with a burst of vivid red and blue in one corner of the arrangement. Moving across the top row of biscuits from left to right, the designs include: neat lines of handwritten names in an early modern parish register; a section of a hand-drawn map from 1561 featuring St Paul’s Cathedral, with street names like ‘Carter Lane’ visible in a tiny spiky font; an extract of text from a funerary monument printed in an early modern book, ending ‘So transitory is our glory’; a section of embroidery from a funeral pall featuring metallic silver armour, crossed gold keys, and two hands holding up a crown. The biscuit designs on the bottom row include: horses prancing past shopfronts on Cheapside in the mid-sixteenth century; a receipt written in early modern secretary hand, which is difficult to read; a portrait of a stern-looking women dressed in a ruff, pearls, and sober dark clothing; swirling calligraphy and dense secretary hand featuring on a will dating from 1638.
