Theseus, His Sails Unfurled

It's Mike. I wish I only talked about tabletop games, writing, and comic books (and tea), but politics keep happening. I like He/Him, and I like She/Her, and I don't like Twitter anymore.
I'm halfway through my (finally) first watch of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood I have some thoughts
Today's shift was like, utter dogshit, so I bought some knockoff Takis and came home and threw together this summer fake-ass sangria concoction that a million people have surely done before but I haven't (white rum, white wine, grapefruit soda) and, you know, it's gonna be fine.
Jane Austen used 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, and so can you.
I hate when every fiber of my being tells me to put someone on blast, but I know it won't help anything or anyone and is a vestige of Lawful Evil programming in the back of my mind. This particular thing has no moral weight; just someone socially acting like wet shit and believing they're right.
I will walk in front of cars that intrude on my sidewalk every fucking day until my demands are met
A depressing number of people believe that one vote over the line for a plurality is a decisive winner-take-all victory Only when they voted for the plurality, of course
My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
If I had a nickel for every time I've run the entire way across my workplace, past a half-dozen people, to open the door for someone who was being ignored, so that they don't have to stand outside alone any longer and then punch in late, I'd have two nickels. I should have zero nickels.
I want to respect someone's quote settings, so I have to subtweet -- but, no, Elmhurst does not have to call their product Milked Nuts. They have decided to. No other nut milk company does. They call them Milked Nuts because they use "more nuts by volume" and they do taste more like the nut.
This is just arguably elevated How2Basic, and I don't understand why so many people have very strong opinions about it.
There’s a guy on TikTok who posts just him taking a pizza out of the oven every day with tongs and all of the comments are about how their day is ruined from having watched this
You could pay me to care who wins the Michigan primary, but it would have to be at least six figures.
I'm not saying people aren't allowed to have opinions about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. I just think opinions about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict should be related to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. For example, you can make the sale of F-15s to the IDF about it but not fandom disputes.
I've heard that now people are saying "matcha" to mean a matcha latte, and not a cup of green tea made from it, or even the powder itself -- and, by thinking this is terrible, I fear I'm either too hipster or not hipster enough.
I kinda can't believe I'm still watching School Spirits, AKA "serious Riverdale," or that it got three seasons at all, but it's just absurd enough and the characters are just snappy enough to keep me interested.
Moreno on Max Miller: "My daughter lives in constant fear of this man ... you can't fathom what that makes me feel like when the dad's number one job is to protect your kids... if there's any minimum standard for being an elected official, he feels to meet it. I don't care about the politics at all"
I think a good portion of terminally online communists actually hate Marx in the same way a lot of Evangelicals actually hate Jesus.
Also, when politicians refer to old Farmer's Almanac-level bullshit (derogatory, but not AS derogatory) as MAHA, that's dangerous and stupid. MAHA is the very new movement to like, destroy medicine and authority and replace it with brain worms and death, not "I'll cut gluten for a month and see."
At least once a week, we have to play "MAHA or Just Crunchy" at work and it's been real touch-and-go since 2020 and I, for one, would like the public to get off Mr. Leatherskin's Wild Ride
"You can't change that many people" YOU CAN TRY
"I support cyclists and their right to ride safely on the road but only if they follow the rules all of the time" is an absolutely unhinged thing to say in a country where we have drivers killing tens of thousands of people each year and speeding while playing on your phone is normal and accepted
As a person who is firmly somewhere on the Asexual spectrum, I'm prepared to say that "The Humpty Dance," an entire song ostensibly about fucking, is a masterpiece, precisely because it is still an Insane Bop while you find none of those parts interesting.
I think about how batshit it feels that this seems to be true, about once a week
"Me and the Major" by Belle and Sebastian is supposed to be about people with like a 20+ year generational divide, but these days, it feels like it could be about any random People's Front of Judaea level of disagreement.
I am a theological protestant, but when it comes to the religion of consumerism, I’m decidedly not. There’s no “priesthood for all consumers”, most of you are dumb as hell, and you should let someone who has expertise and an interest in your repeat business do the pickin’.
I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.
Not trying to start a Discourse up, but I was not ready for all the people mourning and defending Spirit Airlines, which I had always considered to be a predatory ruiner airline.
This is why flying is bad now. People will say they want full service airlines and wax nostaligic about the golden age of jet travel (when it was unaffordable), but revealed preferences are that people choose the lowest up front price option when spending their own money.
The clouds parted for Chelsea, as is only right and just.
CHELSEA GREEN IS THE INTERIM WWE WOMEN'S CHAMPION
I remember having to explain to other kids what a VHS even was, when they were still current. "That's just a tape. Who the heck says VHS?"
sorry for this extremely "'Xennial'" post but i round your perceived age down if i hear you say 'VHS player' instead of VCR
I wouldn't want to be YouTube food history recipe guy Max Miller these days 😞
I’m astonished by the ability of my fellow humans to forget the events we all just lived through. Folks remember the masks and the remote school. The million US dead are rarely mentioned. Folks, we lived through a plague.
i've run into a similar thing where some people seem to approach movies and books as mysteries that need to be solved rather than experiences to be enjoyed it's an amusement ride not a quiz fuckin relax
