ARC started their webinars about changes to their grants schemes today. Clarification on some points below, in no particular order, as people report them: 🔹DP28 apps due “early” 2027 (reminder: no EOI) 🔹No new rounds of existing schemes to be announced; FT27 & DP28 unequivocally called “final”.
Delighted to be the contrarian here, insisting that Homer's monstrous locations are just fantasy. Also, some early hints at where my IHS-AAIA fellowship on Ithacan storytelling is going to take me later this year. www.nzz.ch/wissenschaft...

In my experience, scholars of a particular historical period are the LEAST uptight about "accuracy" in fictional representations of their period, which is why, as a medievalist, I can assure you that A Knight's Tale is the greatest movie set in medieval England that has ever been made.

Hi @gretahawes.bsky.social & @euuanxcvi.bsky.social . You might be interested to see that PALP will show Manto info in a dialog box (with direct link as well) when it has a relevant URL. Slowly adding those... Screen shot is Ariadne: palp.art/browse/#aria... .
Testing new UI for Pompeii Artistic Landscape (PALP). Try p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... . Earliest stages! Slow! Barest functionality! But "Type Ahead" beginning to work. Try 'ar...' or 'ha..." in input in header. You might have to hit return even after choosing word. cc @epoehler.bsky.social
I’ve got two PhD scholarships for domestic students at Macquarie University. Topics must be related to Greek myth in contexts of communal crisis in antiquity. Always happy to chat about ideas! www.mq.edu.au/research/phd...

I finally got around to open-sourcing the full build for my PhD thesis: github.com/bnagy/nagy-t... which may be of minor interest to some people. All but one of the papers are published elsewhere, but it has some interesting LaTeX tricks, and I enjoyed writing the conclusion a great deal.

MANTO: A Born-Digital LOD Resource for Greek Myth | Digital Classics Online

"[Rosenberg] insists we should avoid relying on stories as a source of truth about the past. To be safe, and to advance human knowledge, we should engage in analytic reasoning instead—the kind of reasoning that he believes is the province of scientists, which often contradicts our intuitions."
Story-Shaped Things
Historians tell stories about the past. This philosopher thinks those stories are often wrong--and dangerous.
