I think a large part of why cis allyship to transgender people is often so performative is that they believe they should be congratulated for not being outright bigots.

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

Okay, right side of the issue broadly but what people rightly took umbrage with was the downright condescending reply. There’s no accountability being taken for *why* the right wing may have latched on to your comment, even if that wasn’t your intent. “My bad” goes a long way.

I’d prefer if people didn’t play the NYT games but I’m not gonna make that a whole discourse or part of my day. However, in what world is this the correct response to someone with an understandable grievance?

I also have a news subscription, which is arguably worse, so I had to specifically send in a written request. Took 30 days but I got approved.
If any 2028 candidate wants to run on burning prediction markets to the ground, I would be very down for that.
