Just finished The Tide Child trilogy by @rjbarker.bsky.social (book 1: app.thestorygraph.com/books/a87dfe...) I think this might be the best thing I've ever read. RJs style deeply resonates with me, his focus on the characters, how so much affects them, and how they cope engaged and moved me. ❤️

I just finished one of the most incredible books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. In Praise of Shadows by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki, an essay on finding beauty in literal shadow and darkness, of how appreciation of darkness was being lost in 1930s Japan. app.thestorygraph.com/books/2ed310...

One of the best antidotes to life being horrendously stressful and shite is just to sit outside in the evening with a chilled beverage of your choice and listen to a blackbird singing and singing and singing. It is genuinely balm for the soul.

My new keyboard arriived on Monday and all week it's felt like being very drunk and trying to type, to the point I'm using a typing teacher website to attempt to actually get confident and proficient with it. It's very geared around the classic 10 finger touch typing method... 1/2

Ugh the Saba parking operator are absolutely taking the piss. I bought pre-booked parking from them, and then on exit from the car park (within the time limit of my pre-paid parking) they charged me again more than double what they charged me before. 1/2

I broke my keyboard, looking for a new one and I know the fashion is for half size keyboards, but I really like the numpad and arrow keys. Thankfully there's a solution! My new half size keyboard with all my favourite keys!

A small keyboard which has only arrow keys, a numpad, a volume knob and the typical 2 clusters of keys above the arrow keys, except instead of the usual insert, delete, home and end keys it has del, Fn, copy, and paste keys

Reading a Fantasy novel for the first time in many years. I've generally been of the opinion "I don't like Fantasy", so far it's holding true, but I'm only 20 pages in. If I get to 100 still feeling this way I should allow myself to stop reading it and move on

I've been watching Stargate SG-1 on sky, unfortunately it isn't on there anymore, probably because it's just gone onto @netflix.com , but the Netflix version is awful, loads of stuttering in sideways motion, like a terrible conversion up to 60fps. Feels unwatchable

I'm thinking of giving up on a book I'm reading, and I wonder on @thestorygraph.com if giving up and marking as "Did not finish", or if finishing (for real of course, actually read the rest) and giving it a 2 star review would better steer the recommendations away from this type of book.

Delivery of in stock books from Blackwell's (I had tried bookshop.org and all my usual indies first and no one else had it) is so unbelievably slow, 10 days since I ordered it, and this is not abnormal. 7 days until dispatch notification, but Whistl didn't actually get it until day 9.
