I've been consistently on the record saying reasonable requirements like HRT for 1-2 years for competitive play is fine. But the average cis person online cannot process that trans women who have medically transitioned are different biologically than cis men.

This post got a lot of traction on Twitter, and it's driving me nuts because this IS what "trans activists" have been saying for years and years. It's impossible to have a discussion on this topic when people refuse to acknowledge what one side is actually arguing.

Just retweeting and calling her a bigot and homophobe for an opinion that 90% of America holds to some extent is doing nothing productive.

Now @apnews.com has a deeply reported story confirming the recently-hired ICE officer who shot a man in Maine had serious mental health issues and a long history of violence against women. This comes after ICE slashed hiring standards and rushed some into the field before background checks cleared.

David Brouillette has a history of terrifying and violent behavior, according to those relatives. They accuse him of attacking women in his life over the years, and one shared a voicemail with the AP from last winter in which he told her that he thought someone should slit her throat. Brouillette’s troubling past further challenges how thoroughly the Department of Homeland Security has vetted recruits as it went on a hiring spree to help carry out President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. At least 10 people have died in encounters with immigration agents since Trump launched the crackdown after retaking office, including 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a Colombian national who was shot and killed by Brouillette on Monday while in his car near his home in the coastal Maine city of Biddeford. DHS, which hasn’t released the name of the officer who killed Durán Guerrero, has said the “vehicle attempted to flee the scene and, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon.”

The fact that J.K. Rowling successfully bullied Amnesty International into taking down a report that accurately called out her attack on trans people, especially trans women, is so repulsive and such a display of the power of her money, and her choice to put her vast fortune behind persecution.

For instance, many species that sexually reproduce don’t even make differently sized gametes (i.e., they are isogametic). Furthermore, anisogamy appears to have evolved from isogamy independently numerous times (Gorelick et al., 2017; Henshaw et al., 2023), which means that all females and all males across species do not share a common origin. Furthermore, there is evidence that anisogamy may have first evolved in hermaphroditic species who produce both eggs and sperm, rather than in dioecious species that have separate female and male sexes (Henshaw et al., 2023; Iyer & Roughgarden, 2008). Or as we say in evolutionary biology, dioecy (two separate sexes) may be the derived state, at least in some species, which would render the notion of universal maleness and femaleness even less tenable. In their article, “No universal differences between female and male eukaryotes: anisogamy and asymmetrical female meiosis,” Gorelick et al. (2017) chronicle how gametes are extremely diverse across species, and that there are exceptions to every commonly cited distinction between eggs and sperm (e.g., large versus small, immobile versus motile). Gorelick and colleagues conclude: “Therefore, currently, there are no universal criteria for distinguishing females from males across all animals, across all plants or across all stramenopiles, let alone across all eukaryotes.” In other words, much to gender-critical activists’ chagrin, gametes are actually a part of natural variation and sex diversity, rather than the antithesis of it.
