If you are planning for #Botany2027 and did or did not attend #Botany2026, fill out this form if you need childcare!! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... please!! This year there was no childcare and the nursing room is more a custodian closet without a lock, AC, water/sink+light goes off very 5 mins
Better late than never to compile the #botany2026 talks from research done in the #LagoLab! Check out talks by @laufran.bsky.social, Aislinn Mumford, and @evoyeyo.bsky.social tomorrow, and @laymonstera.bsky.social on Tuesday!
Just a little drink with #LagoLab alums @laymonstera.bsky.social and @evoyeyo.bsky.social to kick off #Botany2026
Good news- the #LagoLab is at a steady state! Incoming grad student @ca-haus.bsky.social moved into Baton Rouge yesterday. He’ll be at #Botany2026 too! 🎉 Campbell will be the first grad student who doesn’t have any overlap with my first grad students. A true generational turnover 😭.
After seven fun, productive years as a #LagoLab PhD student, @laymonstera.bsky.social is off to a postdoc Berkeley with Sarah Kocher. I’m going to miss her but she’s so ready for her career ahead!! (We’d all be crying in this goodbye photo if we weren’t going to see her on Sunday at #botany2026 😅)
Our latest PNAS article with @landismj.bsky.social and Ammon Thompson on a new mathematical model for studying infectious disease dynamics with travel has been covered by WashU Arts and Sciences on its news site. Read it here: artsci.washu.edu/ampersand/ne...

1/12 🚨🚨 I am so excited to share chapter 1 of my dissertation, now preprinted here: biorxiv.org/content/10.6... We ask if are their fundamental, shared mechanisms that stop us from inferring the relationship of species and their timescale of divergence #biology #science
Y'all - the Smithsonian is hiring three new curators - herpetology, ichthyology, and ornithology! Notably, this is a 2nd fish curator position - i.e., not the same as the one advertised last month. So if you applied for that one apply again. www.usajobs.gov/job/873849000

I’m recruiting a PhD student to join our lab in the fall of 2027. If you’re excited about phylogenetics, comp bio, paleobiology, stats theory, macroevolution, etc. please get in touch! Folks at #Evol2026, you can talk to @brpetrucci.bsky.social & @sigournie.bsky.social to learn more about our lab
Headed home from #evol2026, my last one as the Chief Meeting Organizer. I have so much gratitude to this community of amazing people. I hope you all feel as energized as I do. I didn’t get many pictures, so please enjoy this groundhog I saw by the Noble Beast
The branches of the plant tree of life become fuzzy for Andean clades! The evolution of many plant groups of the Andes remain unresolved. Here a breakdown of what happens for #Brachyotum, endemic to the Tropical side of these mountains.
Evidence of introgression amid phylogenetic conflict in #Brachyotum, a plant radiation from the Tropical #Andes New #AJB research by @evoyeyo.bsky.social, Ana Bedoya, Fabián Michelangeli, Lucas Majure, Carmen Ulloa Ulloa, & @tropicalbotany.bsky.social doi.org/10.1002/ajb2... #botany #plantscience
I'm so pleased to see this phylogenomic tour-de-fource out in AJB! This is a core result of @evoyeyo.bsky.social's @lsuscience.bsky.social dissertation, and he adds #Brachyotum to the list of high Andean plant clades shaped by introgression and characterized by high gene tree discordance. #LagoLab

As a kid, I cared why my neighborhood did not look like the Amazon if I lived “close” to it. I (sorta) made that question my career. Happy to have shared a bit about me with @botany.one. Thanks @caordonezparra.bsky.social!
Another week, another #MeetingPlantScientists! In my latest interview for @botany.one, I speak with @evoyeyo.bsky.social about his research on plant #evolution and diversification in the Andes, a region shared by both his and my home countries. #Botany #PlantSci 🧪 www.botany.one/diego-parede...
